Hi,

New to this forum. I'm from Belgium
Just bought my first 2002 HDJ100. Car has 255k km and is relatively good condition. Has center and rear diff lock.

The car is primarily going to be used to tow our horse trailer (2 horses) and by my wife and daughter.

A couple of questions I have is the following:
- what is a good source for parts?
- Is there a mileage at which it has to get new diesel injectors? Typical cost for rebuilt units?
- as the car is currently quite sluggish, I think I need to get the intake manifold cleaned. EGR is already blanked off. The exhaust catalyc converter might also need work to be done on it.

Welcome!

In regards to your engine, you may find more information and knowledgeable people in the diesel section:

Parts: My favorite sources are:
- Partsouq, ships from the Middle East: https://partsouq.com/
- Amayama, ships from Japan or the Middle East: Genuine Japanese Car Part Imports - Amayama - https://www.amayama.com/en
- Japan4x4, especially for rare parts: Japan4x4 Export Service - http://export.japan4x4.com/
- Impex, ships from Japan: IMPEX JAPAN — online new genuine spare parts shop - https://en.impex-jp.com/

In my experience Partsouq can be faster than ordering from a local dealer but they don't always have everything I need. Amayama takes longer to ship but has access to more parts. Japan4x4 is run by Dave who is very helpful and Impex has access to more rare parts but can take a long time.

Injectors: I believe 150K km to change injectors. Here in the US I think you're looking at about $200 USD per injector to rebuild, or you could buy new ones for $250 USD each out of Japan.

They love the 1HD-FTE in Australia. You might find more information about cleaning up the intake and getting it running properly on some of the Australian FB pages:

Hi guys,

Have to come back to this. So I basically agreed to buy this car under the condition it would pass what we call here the used car inspection at the official MOT center. It failed on a rusted through spot in the rear crossmember above the spare tire carrier. Sorry I received no photos yet. They guy selling had it repaired by a Toyota dealer and went back to the inspection center and it now has passed. I paid an advance on the car, which is not my biggest concern, but I'm a bit worried that this is cause for greater concern and maybe this doesn't bode well for the car. It also got a remark about a fluid weep on the rear diff (which I saw - front pinion seal). So I told the seller I have my reservations here. I seem to read a lot that these crossmember can trap moist in them, but actually what am I looking at now. This is quite urgent actually. Thanks.

Hey and welcome!

Very common rust spot - rest of the frame might be in good condition still, but I would recommend thorough inspection. Body mounts, upper rear axle link mounts are usual suspects too. Do you know where the car was first registered?

HD-FTE Injectors are serviceable and usually do not need full replacement. You can get just the nozzles from Denso. Also yours is a non-cooled EGR version, so they will have a specific type of nozzle. If it runs and starts up smooth, I'd say look into electrics, vacuum lines, MAP sensor, intake leaks.

I would recommend changing the water pump, radiator and main belt if it hasn't been done yet - relatively not expensive, but essential jobs for an older fte.

For spares:

Euro4x4parts - Euro4X4Parts: 4X4 Parts And Accessories - https://www.euro4x4parts.com/en - good selection, not always OEM, a lot of them are usually in stock;
Dream-fontanilles - Dream-Fontanilles: everything for your 4x4 vehicle at the best price - https://dream-fontanilles.com/en/ - great selection of OEM and OM parts, sometimes made to order;
Sahara 4x4 - Sahara4x4.com Tiendas 4x4 : Compra online accesorios 4x4 y Recambios para todoterrenos - https://www.sahara4x4.com - great source for aftermarket stuff;

Emailing them or sending a Whatsapp message is a must, as they operate in a more person to person level 😄

Main belt was done by the previous owner, or rather he had it done by a Toyota dealer. Not sure about the pump as the set was only a bit more than € 100 excluding work.
