New guy here...

Biggest question I have is what sites everyone uses to find an LC / LX.

I have the usual saved searches on cars.com cars&bids and BaT. Any others would be greatly appreciated.

While it seems more of a longshot, the regular buy / sell sites may have sellers who do not know what they have as opposed to the auction sites and MUD.

OH..and while I am formally going to be looking / ready in March, if the right deal came along I could make it happen. Im just preparing myself as much as possible!

IH8MUD, craigslist, all of the car search sites, and I hear FB market place.

i've had great luck finding good deals on FB market place and offer up.

Don't limit your search for local. Most of the time you can find a local mud member to check something out across the country for you and if its a good deal a flight and drive cost or shipping cost shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I found my rebuilt 3fe 10 miles from me on offer up for dirt cheap because it was just listed as "toyota engine". Guys brothers auto shop went under during COVID and the brother passed away also. He was just selling off stock for the estate. Guy had ordered a new engine for a customer that paid for it, then disappeared, kept it for the length of the law in case they returned and then sold it.

That is what I was hoping for as well (in terms of enlisting MUD help AND I pay in beer); im def open to anything nationwide and if I have to fly out / drive or ship it back so be it.

Right now I have a Camry coming off lease in August so Ive got plenty of time; in a pinch Id be fine not having a vehicle for a few weeks even.

Welcome! After jumping into the Toyota Land Cruiser world in 2012, I can tell you now that I would pay up to $20K for a low mileage, factory locked, good paint, great interior, 95 to 97 80 series. I absolutely love the legendary status and quality of my Land Cruiser.

Thanks and that is about where I am at tbh.
Factory lockers are a nice to have and would help with resale but not a must-have.

When you say low mileage what are you thinking? For me is ~150k

You guys rock and are already so incredibly helpful. I am very excited for this spring!

Edit: also nice rig!

Welcome to the crew. Another place to look is Facebook marketplace, since they can't hide too much who is selling. It is like any other place out there, dealers will get back to you quickly, private sellers are flaky AF. But at least gives you an idea of pricing and market. I look regularly, seems like 80s come in batches, you may see a dozen one week, then none for 3 weeks. Right now there is a batch of early 90s out there. Wait actively and you will find it. I went all the way to Atlanta to look, and eventually found one 1 mile from my office.

Sooo... I found one!

At first I thought it may be another spam listing but the owner called me back and answered a few questions I had offhand.

I posted in the NE clubhouse and then remembered I have a friend who is from NE with friends back there who are mechanics.
So I hope to have some underside pics today and am putting together a checklist for my eyes and ears on the ground.
Im going back through this thread and the forum for info.

Any and all feedback or comments are welcome!

Did you get it?

Did you get it?
I didnt!

The first few days I was trying to find someone local to look at it. A member here offered to have his shop look at it but it sold just before I could get it to the shop.

It was a good trial run so now im better prepared for the next one.
