New gears with locker?

WIth research I have decided to replace my third member including my pinion bearing from a junk yard. While I have that out I planned on placing a detroit locker in there but keeping the stock 4.11 gears. I was wondering if with out new gears if that is just going to weaken the rest of the rear end. Let me know your 2 cents and what else I should add to the bill while I am doing all this work.

Your fine. Just replace the crush sleeve if you have to pull off the pinion nut.

Yup, as long as the gears are still in good shape and weren't making any noise, no apparent damage to the teeth, then you can re-use them.

Sweet thank you. My new question now... If I were to buy new gears, ring and pinion, is this something I can do myself or will I need a press to press the bearing on the pinion. If I have the bearing pressed on the pinion can the rest of the install be completed? The reason I ask is I work at a shop but we don't have the correct press for the pinion bearing, but know others that can do it cheap, I just don't want to run into un-forecasted expenses.
