My friend put in the updated cold start injector time switch on my 86 Toyota 22RE 4x4 2.4 EFI OEM part # 89462-200 which replaced the 89462-30011.He reused the old copper washer.Still takes 3-6 times of cranking after sitting overnight.Runs and starts first time the rest of the day.The switch was bought off e-bay.Any thoughts on what else could be the problem?Cold start injector itself? This is supposed to be a new engine in this truck.Would it take a different oem part number being a newer engine?

Sounds like your fuel pressure is bleeding down somewhere... Either through the pressure regulator, or from a leak in the system. The next time you try to start it in the morning, go jump the fuel pump terminal in the diagnostic box under the hood, jump B+ To Fp and let it go for 10 seconds, then un-jump the terminals and try to start it. If it fires right up, then you are loosing fuel pressure overnight...

If it is indeed loosing pressure over night, then it's either a weak seal in the pump, a weak seal in the pressure regulator or a plain old fashion leak... Did you try jumping the fuel pump like I said?

This is a common problem on the V6, but it has a fuel pressure dampener that usually fails, and you get long starts after sitting, and a smell of gasoline from the leak... The 4 cylinder doesn't have a dampener, so you only have the 3 probable causes listed above.

i am having this same issue, where is the pressure regulator located? i understand the fuel pump is in the tank accessible underneath the backseat

On the 22RE the regulator is at the rear end of the fuel rail below the EGR valve. It has one vacuum line going to it and one fuel line that goes back to the tank.

On the V6 the regulator is at the front of the drivers side fuel rail.
