Hey Group just wanted to stop by and say Hi. I joined this group becuase yesterday I purchased a 1994 4Runner 4x4 SR5 for $1500. The truck itself is in great shape but the engine is bad, I beleive that the rod bearing is bad but not really sure.

My plans were to rebuild this engine (V6 3.0) but after reading and surfuring the net I hear that I can do a engine swap to a V6 3.4 for the same amount of $$$ and hassle.

Can any one help my out in this area? About how much would I expect to spend? Would it be worth it? Where can I find a good Toyota mechanic? Where can I find a V6 3.4 for a good price

Thanks, all your help and time would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
JD

Welcome JD :flipoff2: <- Mud salute!

I've heard that the swap is in the 3K range once you get the engine and if you buy all the goodies from OffRoad solutions...Here:

If it's only a rod bearing, you can change that with the engine in the truck... By dropping the front diff and pulling the pan.... I've been into mine (22RE 4 cylinder, but same IFS) a few times and it took me 5 hours start to finish to pull it all and replace the mains in my truck. You can not replace the main bearings in the 3VZE without separating the tranny and engine because of the one piece main bearing cap thing....
