Aussie FJ45

G'day all,

I'm new to FJ45's, but not too Cruisers, I've had a few 75 series over the years, but none as cool as a 45. I'll post some pics, but I've also got a couple of questions. Is there supposed to be a crossmember/rear gearbox mount? There looks to be holes in the chassis where one would bolt to. It has the 2F with 4 speed. Also, I'm keen to put disc brakes on the front, and have heard 60 series knuckles etc will bolt straight on, is this right?
Well here's some pics, it's not bad to start with, should be looking a lot better after a few mods. Cheers.

nice looking ute .Four mounts on motor none on box ,unless you put in a later box .As for discs just roll a complete 40/45 disc front end under it .HINT......I've got one and I'm in Brisbane .Enjoy your new 45 .

hey mate
that truck looks very nice! do you know what colour it is?

Thanks, Not sure what the actual colour is, I have to pick up a few parts from the PO so I will be asking him then. I want to be able to match it in the future.

Thanks, I am in Brisbane aswell. Got anymore details on the front end like condition, price? That'd be great.

are the holes on the side frame members? do you have a skid plate? there should be three holes per side for the skid plate.

No skid plate fitted. I thought it might've possible been mountings for a skid plate. I thought it only had two holes per side in the actual chassis itself. Two of which have broken bolts still in them.

Thanks everyone for you comments, I look forward picking your brains for more info in the future.

Sorry about the delay ,been busy with my new 45 .Front diff complete-disc to disc (came out of my 82 BJ 42 ) or just the knuckles, rotors etc just PM me a mobile number .I have a back diff complete drum to drum you can have for nothing .That will give you spare axles finned drums etc (its from my 45) .I run 60 series front and rear complete diffs .I've got more parts than I know what to do with .Just picked up a '77 HJ 45 and pulled all the running gear out .The fun has already started for me .Hope your new toy is giving you a smile .P.S I'm on the south side .

Cheers Grumpy, I will PM my details. I wouldn't mind checking out what other bits and pieces you've got you want to offload.

I did a valve adjust on it on the weekend. There was some pretty loose ones amongst them. It's running heaps quieter and smoother now. Just got to fix an exhaust leak now and it should be sweet.

I need to sell my 4runner and the fun can begin. I rang a local spring works last week and am probably going to get my springs rebuilt with longer mains and wrappers. Hoping to get about 4" lift in total. I don't want the heavy springs everyone seems to mass produce for these here in Australia. Then I will probably go some Tough Dog shocks. I hear the Rancho's, Pro comps etc don't really handle the extra weight of a cruiser, more suited to hilux/4 runner etc.

I'm going to try and find a styleside for it too. I like the old school look of that.

I just did a bit of a dig for this old thread of mine, its a quiet day at work, too dusty outside in the old outback desert so I thought I'd put up a pic of my FJ45 now. Not a real lot different, still have the disc brake parts sitting in the garage waiting to be fitted. I've done a few small things like extended shackles, fitted new seats, headlight upgrade. I've also spent a fair bit of time tuning it to be a bit more economical, but no success yet :bang:. I hope by dragging this thread up will give me some motivation to actually work on it :).

What are you doing there work?
were abouts is it

I'm pretty sure I found out that the holes were for a skid plate, not a crossmember in the end, but I'll take some photos when I get home (in about 10 days) and post them up. I haven't worried about it for this long so I must've worked out it was ok.

I work on an oil rig in the desert in Sth Oz, so we see a lot of dust storms, but this was probably the worst I've seen. There is usually rain after a dust storm, but it's not looking like it this time, sun is out and shining so I better go and do some work. :wrench:

that makes sense why there is heaps of dust and no houses lol looks like you need a space suit to go out and work in that dust
or is that from you doing circle work in you cruiser ute;)
