I likey! Custom mounts or does it come with the goods?

review please. seems beefy.

does it flap when you drive? can legs be adjusted for water run-off/wind shed?

how long did it take you to set it up? how many hands did you need? can you stake it out for winds?

will check arb site for price and side-wall options.

I bought the ARB mounts. ($60) I had to drill them to fit my old school Conferr rack but overall it was an easy process. You can actually bolt it directly to most racks as long as they have a few flat vertical surfaces along the length.

It seems pretty well made. Legs adjust to allow for water run-off or to maintain level on rough terrain. Takes about 30 seconds to unfurl and lock into place, one man operation. 2 man op would take about 15 secs. It does come with tie downs for windy conditions. I'll probably get the side netting later, maybe a good idea for the :princess: to give me for xmas.

As for flapping when you drive, with the passenger windows down, I do hear it a bit but with all the junk on the roof already, it's hardly more. They did think ahead and make the zipper go both ways in case you mount it on the driver's side.

Don't buy direct from ARB, too much green. I got mine through trdparts (mud vendor) for $207 plus shipping. Fast service however I did have an issue with the mounting brackets that I bought. I'm waiting for them to make good on a mistake.

thanx 4 the quik feedback: be curious to hear it how it holds up for you in wind/rain.

is that one of the NOS ConFerr's yr running? how'd ya mount it?

NOS 5'x7' Conferr that I picked up from a local guy who bought it for a Suburban years ago and never used it. I love the giant size and the old school look, holds a lot of camping gear too! I mounted it with these mounts, top notch stuff.

Gutter Mounted Roofrack Brackets

The ARB awning brackets slip in between the rack and the gutter mounts and get sandwiched down for a really solid mount.

Very nice! I have one on my 200 and has worked out great. Have not got the one man set up down though. How did you do it?

As you start to unfurl it, reach up with one hand and flip the pivot arms out. Then you can slot them in as you work your way out. It's not super easy but it can be done. You'll want two people if the wind is blowing.

How easy, with your experience installing your own, do you think it would be to adapt this to say, a Yakima rack?

I'm going on a four day 150 mile mountain bike trip in September and I am using my 62 as a chase vehicle. This would be perfect for a bike repair area and a Margarita at the end of the day area.

Its pretty easy to attach to a yakima rack but I would recommend a third load bar. ARB suggests at least 3 attachment points as this thing is long. Using u-bolts and l-brackets with pre-drilled holes from local hardware store will do the trick. Make sure the pre-drilled wholes line up with the mounting slots on the awning. I have some of the hardware laying around, I can email or post up here. Let me know.

X2 on the ease of mounting to a Yakima system. If you go with the 2500 awning you will need 3 mounting points. You can buy with the smaller awning and get away with 2 mounting points. The key will be the vertical bolt hole placement, the horizontal are infinitely adjustable along the length of the awning.

Looks like the 8 footer that I bought used. Haven't mounted mine yet as no roof rack installed. I like how the thing is almost perfectly the same length as the roof. :)

That ARB looks at home up there. Nicely done!

Overland Journal did a review on a hand full of these awnings in the latest issue....can't remember who won.....Great test job they did using a plane for the wind:cool:
