Trying to recall if the HDJ81 can be locked when not in Lo....I want to say yes. Been awhile since I've driven it.

No it won't. Low range, CDL, twist the dial to your requirement.

Although im alittle fuzzy, i believe you Cut the grey number nine wire at the 4 wd ecu panel behind the foot kick board panel and it locks in hi or low range if you have a dash CDL switch.
Yardpig do you have an airbox ? A friend just bought a truck and it came with an k&n cone filter only. He has a ton of parts if your into trading also.
Granite grinder give me a call if i can help in any way. Im not the smartest guy but i have had most issues with these 80 's.

I believe I do have an airbox! Send me a PM to remind me.

Score! Let me know if anything you need, just squashed a 96, moon glow pearl on tan leather (why not grey??!!). Might have the odd bit you need and cheap for your attention here.

Mike had a finalized verbal deal on a stripped out 80 diesel for his 60 engine swap, never heard what he decided, busy guy I guess...

I am indeed looking for parts, shoot me your phone number to my email: phil at senger dot ca

"This modification does not have anything to do with the CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SWITCH(CDL) directly. You do not have to do this, if you just install a CDL switch. The purpose of this mod is to overide the default behaviour of the vehicle that automatically lock the center diff in low range."

"However if you do this mod, you are going to need a CDL switch, otherwise you will never be able to lock the center diff."

Ah thats it. I guess its the seven pin wire too and not the nine pin wire. So why i always cut the wire is so i can be in low range and not have it locked in 4wd. My bad , in any case its a must do in my books being it gives you more flexibility especially if you are running the part time kit. Thanks greg.

ya a verbal.......................

So, I installed the CDL switch, tried it right away, no go. I go for a short burn for Tequila ('cause that solves most problems), try it again and "Voila" I get an indicator light. Try the rear locker, no go, keeps flashing, go to the front and it locks up, then the rear locks up. Woo Hoo
Of course, today we decide to go for a burn and the radiator takes a dump :(

You bet. I have not done the pin 7 mod yet to my truck, but will as I think the option of unlocking the center in low is good as well.

Joy.

Glad the lockers are working though. Every month or two is a good idea to exercise the entire system if you have not had to use them.
