No pics yet, so you'll just have to wait until after I actually get to see what I bought.
Talked to the owner today, he threw a battery into the truck and it fired right up. Since he owns the gas station there he is getting his mechanics to check the truck over. He'll be bleeding the brakes and clutch, checking/adding oil levels in the diffs/transmission/transfer/engine and just doing any minor stuff necessary for me to be able to drive it home. Very nice and awesome guy to deal with so far.
He's apparently liquidating most of his automotive collection. He's been collecting for over 30 years. It sounds like he has some beautiful cars up there too, ranging from the 30s up to the 70s.
Can't wait till Sunday :bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:
 
hmmm, there seems to be some discrepancy between what Rob found on google earth and what I was told. It might not be 2 pickups after all. The other looks like just a regular 40 series, and one that has seen better days :(

Well worst case I still get a 45 out of the deal and maybe some parts off the 40 that I can use.

Mat - when you get there take a few shots of the little lawn tractor near the 45 for me?
 
It's hard to tell, but the red 45 looks pretty good compared to some.
If the disassembled 40 an83/84 text me, I would love to get some spare parts for the two aging relics in my fleet. So many people I know drive Tacomas, yet I stubbornly roll around in antique farm equipment :)

I sincerely hope this works out for you. A 45 would a be a nice fit for you. Be sure to stand on the roof for your signature shot immediately after purchase!!! That's how we bumped into each other this past summer in Tofino. I knew it was Mat right away. You're going to have to find something to tease me about sooner or later.

She's had some hardships and is going to need a bit of love but she looks good to me. Heading up tomorrow to bring her home ...hope she isn't temperamental ;)

Well that was a wonderful way do kill a day. When you talk to someone and ask them "how much rust is on the truck, what condition is the body?" and they reply "it's not bad, some bubbling up here and there", and then you confirm this by asking "so there aren't any holes or anything like that?" and they reply by saying "no" you would normally come to the conclusion that the truck require some body work ...well, you would at least assume that it actually has a body to work with!
The 45 cab, from the half point down is mostly fiberglass patches, swiss cheese rusted away sheet metal and some random bits of sheet metal either screwed onto the rusty ones or just held in place with the fiberglass patches. The floor is mostly gone and held together with patches, the rockers, back wall and firewall sections are mostly fiberglass patches. The doors half way up are the same, the fenders are garbage and the front cowl piece is not entirely s***ty. The entire back box is garbage, the side walls are 1/2 patches and the floor is entirely gone and replaced by sheets of plywood drilled into things. The frame is very rusty and has a crack near the back. The only parts that did not entirely suck were the top back wall, which has rust on the inside corners and around one window and would need sheet metal patches there. The roof, which needs work on all corners and some replacement of little patches, the window frame which other than the dash appeared to require the least amount of work and the hood that has a couple places to cut out and replace. Otherwise the entire thing is scrap. The engine is a gasser and a 4 speed, the rear axle is a full floater but everything is rusty as can be.
Now as a finish to the entire setup the truck has been painted over with a brush and some nicely faded red color.
The other parts "truck" is a joke and total scrap. The frame is so badly rusted and full of scale it's barely holding, the body has been patched over the years with actual steel but is mostly rusted away (the parts that are still there that is), the other assortment of spare parts are all in various states of decomposition and require extensive work to be of any use. The engine is a gasser and a 4 speed.
When I asked the guy about his answers and why he was under the impression the 45 was in ok condition he replied he didn't realize it was 1/2 fiberglass patches. Which I found hard to believe considering he had been collecting vehicles for 30 years. But since he had a stroke a couple years back I will blame the lack of common, obvious sense to him not regaining his mind entirely.
I came back with an empty trailer as the scrap of s*** sitting there wasn't worth the price or anything close to it. At least Robert, Sopel and I got to have a nice drive and take the U-Haul trailer out for a tour of the local highways.
Looks like I'm back to not having a 45 and currently fairly pissed off. This is the first and last time I decide to buy a truck unseen and invest in driving to the other side of the province without detailed photos to convince me that it's not a total piece of s***.

No, I didn't buy it. Considering this lovely trip cost me over $400 between the trailer and fuel costs if he gave it to me for free I might be able to sell whatever isn't totally trashed to at least cover that expense. I wasn't about to spend a dime more on it, never mind what he was asking. Besides I'm not in the business of vehicle scrapping and parting. I don't have the space or time.
