hey guys, just thought i would say hi and will post pics of me and my dad's '78 FJ45 project we just bought on friday....iv had a cruiser for a couple years now and ALWAYS wanted a 45 so this one came up and being that there are very few of these on the island me and my dad decided to take it...so it begins me and my dad will be doing a frame off resto on it but first need to make some shop space (literally need to clear, level and put up a shelter for shop space before we can dive in...)i'll be posting all my stupid rookie questions that i have throughout the resto cause im no master mechanic being that im still kinda in high school...yea, my hopes are to keep it as original as possible as im only the 3rd owner and i dont think anything has been hacked up. yup...

pics are coming.....when the truck finds its way up to my place (gotta get it towed here)

yea man your welcome to come check 'er out...the 45 is supposed to be commen up this week from vic with a tow truck and then im not sure when the other 2 are going to be coming up (restorable 55 and parts 40 that both came with the 45) so yea....will post pics when it gets here, im realy hoping its waiting in the driveway tomorow when i get back from school!

YYYYYYAHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO ITS HERE!:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

ok....bad pic, heard a truck pullen in, looked outside and it was my truck so grabbed the camera took a pic out the patio door and ran upstairs for shoes and a jacket....more tomorow

pics as promised:flipoff2:she's a bit rusty so im going to be learning a whole lot about body work on this project cause i would like to save the original tub. the floor is pretty bad from what i can see, as is the back of the tub....the frame is in pretty good shape i think, the only rust that i know of i have pictures of here...oh yea...and theres a new passenger door, and set of NEW toyota fenders that came with it...among many, many other parts so yea....thats my project. just gotta find time to get the shelter up so i can work on it now

Argh!

I'm having flash backs... to Bucharousea's (sp) 45 build up ... Never know what can happen here on 'mud.

yea yea...i know its pretty ambitious to say i want to save the tub...but im gunna be going for my welding ticket in a couple months (part of my high school...can get my ticket and get the hell outta there at the same time while getting credit) and have a buddy who is in doing sheet metal right now and im sure he would help me out with whatever he can. im also thinking a heritage floor pan would be a good bet and then cutting whatever i can out of the FJ40 parts truck that im probably going to be getting to fix whatever else on the tub.the mechanics are prime, the engine was re-built not that long ago, has a holy carb (also has a stock aisin sitting in a box in my corner of the shop)and she starts right up and purrs. theres only 7x,xxx k's on it so it hasnt been driven all that much. unfortunatly i think this project will end up sitting for a little while before i can start posting pics of tear down and re building...need more hours of daylight to clear an area to pour a concrete pad and put up the shelter to work in...

I admire your ambition!!! There is a 45 body tub forsale on eBay....check it out! Would be a great start for your truck.

Best of luck with it! Can't wait to see the progress on this!

can anybody post a link? i just tried looking on ebay for the tub but couldnt find it...

I just looked again on Ebay, but it appears to be gone. It was there just yesterday.

Pretty hefty rear spring packs on that truck!

Do you realize that you're in for, at a minimum, 400-500 hours of fabrication and welding to restore that cab? not trying to dissuade you at all, just give a realistic idea, based on my own experience (starting with a far sounder tub and upper cab section) in case you were thinking it might not be so involved or so time-consuming. A heritage floor pan would be a good choice.

Have you considered checking SOr to see if they have any tubs? They brought in a couple of 40' containers from Oz a few months back. SOR does stock new 45 roof panels...

Hope you did not pay alot for it. Im scared looking at it lol. No really good luck I hope to see it on the road one day. What ever you do don't part it out, it would not be worth alot.

You are definitely a better man than me! Good luck and keep us posted!

bah, aint that bad.....:flipoff2:

I might be able to make your life a little easier , I have a cab and box out behind the goat barn...

cab is better than yours, needs rockers but the floor isn't too bad ( I have rockers for it) and the box is fairly crappy, but salvageable. bed sides are decent enough to fix up. I want the floor out of it tho...( it's the same as a minitruck bed floor I think, so you could always find me some floor from one of those and leave the bed alone)

hundred bucks and all of this could be yours..:grinpimp: course if you bring beer into the equation, my math tends to get wonky....:bounce:

seapotato-wicked!, thanks man. good to know. i'll send you a PM with my number on it we can figure out when i can come check it out and figure out what ill need to pick it up. i'll also try to scrounge up a minitruck floor for you as well, i have a buddy or 2 into mini trucks they might know of one....thanks a tonn man...im so stoked about this project....im stoked about getting this thing started!

Henry James- yea i know this thing is gunna take a LONG TIME to do up me and my dad had figured a year or 2, maybe more....maybe with the tub from seapotato it will make life a little easier but i dont realy know....lots of things are happening at the moment, to many to say for sure...you would be welcome to come check out the rig/progress once it gets started...im just down the highway from you in Mill Bay. the rear springs on that thing are massive, and will be coming off in favor of stock height springs

no worries man, I think the Crusty's " binge and purge " thing is rubbin off on me a little, I can see I'm never going to mess with that cab, and the box I really only grabbed for the floor and little hatch thingy's ...( the ones that managed to stump all the 45 nerds as to their intended purpose :flipoff2:)

not to mention the tailgate chains..:grinpimp:

I'll shoot you a pm, and you can come have a look at some point, I'm not that far away.

cheers,
ryan
