78 series RV's blow:
Boots
Seals
Bearings
Gearboxes (at 60-80000 kms) YAY FOR ALLOY instead of steel
Transfer cases AS ABOVE
Factory Lockers
...
Ask stoo.
The Troopy has done quite a few seals etc. in it's short life ( 18 months / 40,000 Miles )
1 x Axle seal gone
2 x Transfer front output seals
1 x Rear diff pinion seal
Both spindles and seals replaced
Front wheel bearings gone
New clutch ordered last week, will be fitted soon.
Fan viscous-hub-thingo gone due to being used as a propeller.
2 x pairs handbrake shoes
3 x pairs rear brake pads.
Starter motor removed twice to clean / lubricate.
Radiator out once to remove crud between rad and A/C condensor, needs to be done again now.
1 x Alternator rebuild due to mud damaged bearings / brushes
otherwise, all OK!
I think the 70 series are pretty tough, most Troopies have no such problems in the entire life of the car, but most Troopies are owned by conservative old-geezers that tow their caravans around Australia, I enjoy abusing the s*** out of this car. Swimming in deep mud does the damage. My father's Hilux has done 300,000 Miles and runs like a top, but it doesn't go offroad. It's never had the bonnet up other than for oil changes etc.
After fixing all of this stuff, I'm thinking I'll stay out of the mud for a while.
No gearbox, Transfer or Locker probs yet.
