Need an update/ pics of AC setups in pigs...

I have been looking for AC options for the current build, "FAT FRED", my '73 pig. It came to me setup for a chevy, and my TBI 350 found it's home. I was hoping to use the complete AC/heater system out of the '89 Suburban that my motor came from... the half that's inside the truck would fit alright, has the heater in it, and is similar in size and shape to my '76 pigs origional AC unit. The other half has the AC exchanger in it, and is just too damn big to fit under the hood with the V8. I was willing to slice and dice, but I just don't see any way of making it work short of building my own box/ducting and hunting for a different fan... too much work for the amount of firewall and inner fender that would be sacrificed.

I was watching the other thread about minitruck AC. Has anybody done anything with this yet?

Any pics or comments about Vintage systems?
Don't think I want to pay 5 times more for AC than I payed for the truck, but you never Know....

I have decided on a Vintage air system, one of their heat/cool/defrost models. I have found only 2 of their units that will fit with minimal leg room obstruction.

I have a TBI 350 with sepentine belts. I have the AC pulley/bracket kit from Summit Racing as well as a Sanden 508 compressor. I am placing my order next week after I talk with the Vintage Air tech guys.

Classic Auto Air

I put a Classic Auto Air a/c heater combo in. They will have the compressor mounts for v-8s, too.

Here's a couple pix. It takes up less room than the stock heater did.

I especially liked that you can pick the controls and vents you want to use. The whole system is modular. You can get cable or electronic controls.

The only things under the hood are the heater valve, the drier, the compressor and the evaporator.

That looks slick as hell shermantank55. How does she blow?
I gotta get back to the real world for a while, but I'll definately check that out later. Thanks!

a/c performance

The new unit really works well. Initial running of the a/c frosted up the intake line in the cab. I had to add insulation to keep someone from burning themselves on the fitting.

I think I would go with the electronic controls if I did it again, though. The cable controls routing is tough, but doable. I went with the cables for a vintage look, but I think the electronic controls would provide better air blending.

The defroster is awesome as is the heater.
