Need to Rent an SST (alignment tool) for knuckle/disc conversion

Getting ready to start next week or so. If anyone has one they can lend for a fee/shipping, let me know.

I've got the knuckle alignment tool if that's what you need. It's the one to work out the shims required. $150 deposit plus shipping/Paypal fees and you can borrow it so long as I get it back before the end of March.
It'll be shipped from Canada and you'd be returning to Phoenix via USPS General Delivery (I'm heading to Central America after that and shipping there would be a killer).

Sorry, I need the knuckle alignment tool which from all I have read is required when doing the mini truck disc brake conversion.

I have seen the writeup on making one but I thought I would ask around first..

lots of people do the conversion without the tool. marlin sells a fish scale so you can make sure they're not too tight or too loose.

but if henry is willing to loan you the tool for a month then you might as well go for it.

I read that.. but I thought the purpose of the SST alignment tool and fish scale (for preload) served two separate purposes. Wouldn't I need to check/ensure aligment considering I'm changing the knuckles?

Most likely, I will take cruiser_guy up on his gracious offer. I am just keeping the request out here for a few days to see if one can be found closer.

That's correct, the alignment tool ensures that the inner axle is centered on the axle seal. Hopefully the better aligned you are the less axle rebuilds you'll be doing in the future!

btw the deposit is to ensure that the tool makes it back!!

you do understand you not only need the tool, also Dykem layout marker (http://www.dykem.com/), and an 8" caliper (dial or digital) to complete this job. The chrome spindle of tool has to be marked, and the caliper must be large enough to fit around the knuckle housing for measurement.

I you have not misplaced the shims for the bottom cap of the knuckle housing you can avoid 100% of this operation, even on a knuckle swap. If you have the original shims, you will be to "close to call" on locating a birfield in the center of spindle (what this whole operating accomplishes).
