Question: 74’ FJ40. Replacing the clutch. At the step where I am bolting down the pressure plate. In my case it’s taking well beyond 14 foot pounds to turn torque wrench and plate is still not seated. Everything I’m reading says it’s easy to break these bolts so wondering what’s going on…? Any help would be greatly appreciated, trying to take it to expo east next weekend… If I break a bolt won’t be ready in time... Before it’s asked; yes, have protruding splined hub on disc towards the engine...;)
Thx
Rick

Wow, that’s it then, but I specifically looked at other threads and they show the opposite...

I’m with you and will flip the disc. That would explain it and what I suspected....Thx

Ok, last double check.... throw out bearing orientation.... I have the flat side, larger surface, rounded edges towards the three arms on the clutch cover . The side of bearing that’s graduated and has two independent surfaces is towards the cast housing with the fork retaining springs. Correct? Thx Rick
