My 2016 LC is at the Tire shop having some 285/65/18 tires installed along with the SCS ray 10s (9x18 et25) and the guy at the shop called saying they rub super bad on the frame parts in the front. The truck is bone stock. I expected perhaps a bit of rub on the mud flap or even the fender liner or UCAs at full lock but they act like it is going to rip the tires off if they install these. Should i tell them to hold off or are they just being overly dramatic?

These are the tires:

These are the wheels:

Thanks!

That's the combination of +25 offset and a 9 inch wide wheel. Stock offset is +60, Rock Warriors are +50, and both are 8 inches wide.

You can try removing the front mudguards and heating/pushing the front of the wheel wells for a little more clearance within the wheel wells. In this case, I don't think that's the issue. It won't fix rubbing on frame or suspension components.

Yeah i'm not too worried abut those parts as it is kind of expected. I am more concerned about the rubbing on the inside edge on the kdss and control arms. Looking at the spreadsheet in the wheel and tire database thread it seems that no one has a real severe rubbing issue with that size tire. and with a lower offset i would think that it moves the wheel/tire outward and not toward the inner side.

285/70/17 and 285/65/18 fit no problem on stock 200 LCs and LXs and they are common sizes on here. That's on +50 or +60 wheels. I think those tires will probably fit a lot better on your stock 18x8, 60 offset wheels.

In looking at available info, I’ll guess the rubbing may come from the wider wheel. IMHO, you don’t want any frame/suspension rubbing when on level ground because it could get worse to the point of tire damage when the suspension is flexed.

Outside of tire is still a major problem with parts on the back of the wheel well.. mud flap and even body mount. Stock wheels with 285/65 KO2s come within 1/4" of the plastic parts on flat ground at full lock. Move the wheels out at all and you'll get rubbing... let alone if there's an offset change too.

IMO, get yourself a set of Rock Warriors and don't look back. The bead ring system is great, functional armor and they're the lightest wheels.

My guess would be most of your rubbing they are talking about is on the inner fender linner, with a 9 inch wheel with that kind of offset you shouldn't have a ton of rubbing on your KDSS arm, but you will have tons of rubbing on the inner fender liner front and back. Get a heat gun or sawsal out if ya wanna run that setup and it will work, just my 2 cents...

Thanks all. I am having them mount and balance the tires on the new wheels and i will put them on myself after i get the front spacers in and can rework the fender liners and mud flaps.

Wanna hear something (almost) funny though....?

At first i told them to put the new 265/65/18's on the oem wheels and i'd just switch wheels later and he said that he couldn't because their company policy (discount tire) said that size tire must have at least an 8.5" wheel. So they cant go from 265/60/18 to 265/65/18. Figure that one out.
