I need some help from you early Pig owners.

I just bought a set of early front signals that I want to install on my '74.I'm thinking that there must have been access of some kind from inside the engine compartment on the early rigs to avoid removing the fenders to remove the signals.

Any pics, info,or suggestions to help this project are welcome.

TIA

On my 72 the nuts are right under the fender. Loosen them up and pull the lights out.....are some different than that?

did you maybe purchase 67-68 apron mounted turn signals? 69 and up all mounted on the fender. wiring went in through a grommeted hole in the inner fender to the engine compartment

I'm with Ige, thinking they may be the early units. worth a few bucks if in good shape.

Yes,they are the early signals that mount to the aprons.I was wondering if there was access to them from the engine compartment in the early years.

The later signals can be removed without taking the fender off the truck. Is this the case with the early ones? Is that as clear as mud? I've never seen a set on a rig in person.

I'll post some pics tomorrow. They need paint but are in pretty good, working condition. All the lenses are decent but I will be on the look out for spares.I got the signals from another Mud member.

These are the signals. They should be installed in the next couple of weeks.

Anyone know what color they were painted - body color or the white? Anyone have spare lenses to sell?

I think they were grey originally

lenses

for what its worth, if the lenses are just cloudy but not cracked, they can be "restored" with any of the over the counter headlight restoration kits that are available at Autozone, Pep Boys, etc......it takes a little time but, the results are well worth it.

I think the kit I used was made by Turtle Wax, cost was around $8 as I recall, it came with 4 different grits of scuff pads, some solution to keep the pads wet while cleaning (like wet-sanding) and some mild compound. I spent about 20 minutes or so on some headlights recently and the outcome was really quite amazing.

If you have access to a small die grinder with a buff pad (or the little polish pad that goes on the end of your drill would probably work ok too)......the results are even slightly better. Hope that helps. Good luck!
