Hi, I have a 1975 FJ40. I'm replacing the slave cylinder and found the ends of the hose are all screwed up from vice grips or?. Where can I get a new hose? Cruiser Corps has them for the wrong year. Not sure if they would fit. I've been looking but so far no luck. Thanks

I found a new brake line I bought from Specter some time ago. Fits perfect. Thanks

I did a new master/slave with a stainless steel hose off Ebay last year. Next I'm going to look for SS brake hoses to replace my OEM rubber ones.

Hello. I have a 9/'74 FJ40 and am rebuilding the clutch master cylinder and replacing the slave. I also purchased the soft line that connects the slave to the hard line from the master. I also need to replace the hard line and in searching online I have found that there is a 65" stainless steel braided line available on eBay that could potentially replace the hard line and soft line combination. Has anybody tried this? The fittings look correct on each end, but I'm wondering if it is long enough or if it would be with a different route to the slave.

Also, this is the hose I found on eBay:

Matt sold me the whole kit, minus the hard line which I did not need. Great service and reasonable price. He's a good resource. Not sure if he stocks the hardlines. SOR has been mentioned.

I would be leary of replacing a hard line with a soft line even if it is covered in steel. FWIW. These brakes don't need any more reason to go spongy, LOL. ANNNND, I don't seem to have good luck on ebay (missing bits, shoddy quality, chinesium knock-offs and whatnot) so I prefer dealing with vendors that care about their reputation.

You probably could run a soft line all the way, it's just the clutch. How long is the hard line? You can buy hard line "blanks" (just straight hard line) in various lengths at a good FLAPS and make your own pretty easily. Worst case; you have to flare and end or two

A while back I bought a Master Slave and a braded stainless line to connect them for my 72. It had an oem 2 piece line (metal and rubber sections). The ss line was extra long for a FJ45, it was $50 more for a correct shorter line I just have a big loop in the line by the fender. It was from JOETLC I think maybe $150 delivered (ebawy is down so I can't check the price)I'm very happy. Oh an put the line on the slave first, then install the slave and then attach to the master.

If anyone's hunting down the road. We offer an upgrade kit (primarily for the 70-74 FJ40 but fits others) that includes AISIN (the OEM) master and slave, OEM clip, Japanese hose and a custom bent hard line w/10mm fittings to convert from the banjo style (discontinued cylinder) to the modern cylinder configuration. The hard line connects back to the factory mounting clip on the firewall.

(Master and slave mounting hardware as well as clutch pedal pivot pin hardware is also avail as needed)

Very cool pic. I've always been a fan of Billy the Kid. Thanks for the info. I definitely wouldn't replace a hard line with steel for brake lines, but where this is for the clutch I may try it. Agreed on the quality of eBay parts at times. I willl be sure to verify with the seller that the hose has the correct ends.

The hard line is about 60", though I haven't removed it yet. Adding another 17.5" (length of the soft line to the slave) would mean I'd need about 80 inches. If I try the soft line, I'll have to route it differently to make up for some length. I tried flaring one end of the existing hard line due to the existing fitting being mushroomed, but didnt' have any luck. The line kept slipping out of the bars. If the soft line doesn't work I'll have to buy a blank and make one. Thanks for the info.

Thank you for the info. Is your slave on the same side as the master? Mine is on the opposite side, which is why length is a concern.

Thank you for the info.

I'd just make a new hardline, then the stk soft line. Theres no difference in brake and clutch hard lines. Ni-cop line is easier to work. If you do use hardline and cut it to proper length you will need to double flare it.

Do you know if 3/16” hard line will work with the 10mm fittings needed for each end?
