Need Knowledge On Adding Bluetooth!

O.K. My Landcruiser Pros! I just did a search on bluetooth and saw that someone asked the same question back in 2005. He only got three replies and no one EVER answered his question! Well, so far I haven't had that problem, so here it goes.


I have a 2003 Landcruiser with navigation. Of course I would love to add bluetooth. Is it possilbe to add bluetooth to the system? I'm sure one of you experts would know, or have the manuals to see if it is possible to add the bluetooth. You would think, since the navigation has voice/speaker system, I know that sometimes, they have extra connections on the back of the systems or navigation drives to allow for future upgrades. Any help and info you guys can give me would be great!

An '03 LC probably has a Gen 3 nav system, which is a non-Bluetooth generation.

I'm no pro on the issue, but it may not do you any good to add it anyway, at least in the factory form I have in my 06.

In my car, it works awesome, and exactly like I would expect: its use is dependent on your phone type and obviously having service. No extra charge or anything.

In my Cruiser, and I've looked into it a few times (I hope someone finds me wrong) I can set my phone to recognize the Cruiser, and vice versa, but when I talk to the company that supports it (I forgot the name) they say that it won't work because of where I live, NO MATTER the phone.

So, from Toyota's standpoint with the 06, you have to live in an area that supports it, and have the right phone. Doesn't make any sense to me at all. You would think it was a vehicle only issue, I can't figure out how their answer makes any sense.

So, just throwing more info out there, but not answering your question.

I may be of some help on this issue. I installed a motorola bluetooth kit in my 99 LC and love it. If you have a car stereo install shop/cell phone dealer in your area, they may be able to hook you up. The brand I have is a motorola, but sold through aamp of america a very common car audio accessory company. I am not on this site that often, but I'll check back, if anybody is interested I can post model#'s and pics?

Of course I would love to see what you did! Did you have to modify your vehicle? Meaning, did you have to install something in your interior that made it look aftermarket? Since I posted for this help, I have been trying to do some reasearch. I found a company called Parrot. They specialize in bluetooth technology. I was surprised on their prices. Their 3000 model bluetooth is about 150. Of course I expected a lot more than that. They offer models that connect to your navigation system for use on your screen or radio, but it is only offered to dealers. It figures! Anyway...please let us know and show us what you did. Thanks!
