We acquired a frac sand mine as part of a larger oil&gas transaction. They've been using icom ic-f2100d radios to communicate around the mine, and I'm looking for cheaper/better radios to replace them with.
From a quick google search, these are UHF transmitters...
As a test, I put my GMRS radio on 462.5875 and was not able to communicate with the iCom's channel 2.

Can anyone give me a quick lesson on the advantage of the icom - and is there a cheaper/better option to start replacing them with?

You're going to need to figure out what's programmed on their channels. Dig through their programming manual. It shouldn't be too hard. Depending on what you find you may have licensing issues as well. (?)

Baofeng UV-5r radios can be programmed to these frequencies once you figure out what you need. They are cheaper, not better.
