Got the screw set and new plastic cover for both sides and installed per the TSB. Both my side mirrors were "twitching" which seemed more like an electrical problem. Dealership suggested to replace both side mirror assemblies at significant expense. So far so good but time will tell.

Why does Toyota offer some TSBs only during the 3yr/36k period? If its a TSB, let it be for the life of the vehicle. It is a fix because its not an intermittent issue, its an effect of a poorly designed product. It's not going to go away after 36k miles.

Mirror TSB..not CPO

As warning for future vehicles with this mirror issue..Toyota considers this not to be an item covered by the CPO warranty. They state it is a "hardware" issue and not a failed item that would be covered. My argument was that they've clearly identified a defect when they re-design the bolt set. I had the dealer call several times, and I even called as a matter of principal. No luck. It wasn't the cost that bothered me but the failure to admit the original bolts didn't do the job. They obviously are not intended to be a wear item!

The bolt set is cheap..but I've got to say it's a real pain to get the black plastic cover snapped back in correctly. Any tricks / suggestions for making this easier when I do the other side?

Thanks for the help.

I've had the same issue and thought I was imagining it. Glad to see it is not my mind warping.

I would practice snapping it in with the old plastic piece before trying the new one. I started at the base near the window and tried to snap it up from there. Good luck.

Same Issue LX570

Lexus tech told me this TSB for the LC didn't apply to the LX and the only way to fix it was to buy the whole sideview mirror. I got the $17 per side repair kit.....perfect fix. Thanks guys!!!

Does anybody have the part numbers to those modified bolt kits to stop that annoying mirror twitch. The local dealer wants $200 to fix it.

Had this same issue in two areas. Passenger mirror twitched at anything over 65 mph. When I touched it there was not much play. Took to dealer and they tightened both entire mirror assemblies and also fixed the twitching passenger mirror. Had no idea there was a TSB. Now need to go look at paperwork to check if they just tightened same parts or installed improved components. Either way was happy with result and at no cost. Been lucky; the service manager took an interest in the vehicle and is officially my service advisor in the system. Mine's a 09 with CPO, no questions asked.

Have LC200, 2008
Had same problem on drivers side .
There is a TSB on MUdd somewhere but got it from dealer after the service dept looked upTSB
I purchased Kit. Cost $18
Kit consists of a replacement plastic lower shroud and two replacement screws that are fitted with a flat and spring washer. There were no washers on the old ones removed.
I replaced the screws and fitted the old plastic shroud back on as it was not damaged when I removed it
Guess I was lucky but if I have to do the passengers side I will try to get the old shroud off without damaging it and just buy a couple of stainless washers ...one flat and one spring
Put some thread lock on the tip of the screws before you reinstal
To get the shroud off look under the bas of the mirror toward the door side
You will see a small slit on the bottom
I ground a small flat screw driver to the width of the slit and carefully pried it off , working around the loosened edge
Put some tape on either side of the slit edge to protect the paint

I just bought my 200 series on Saturday and discovered the "twitch". Glad to see it will only cost me $18 to fix it

They had this issue with the 80 Series as well. Ask me how I know...

This was intermittent on my '09 LX570 and today I noticed the driver side started twitching like crazy. I always thought it was the glass itself. Finally realized it was the housing moving. Driver side is really loose compared to passenger side.

Thanks for the tips in this thread, hopefully I can pop that cover off and replace without breaking it, just be careful I suppose eh?

Wow was that ever tricky to put the plastic piece back in. If someone stumbles on this thread and wants to do it themselves here is how I did it which made it much easier.

1) Use a pick, like a dentist pick bent at a 45 degree or even more 70 degree angle, put it in the little hole by the door and you can just pull down on it. Don't worry too much about breaking the piece there it won't break there, pull away and then slide a screw driver or pry tool of some sort in the side, then use your hands and the too to loosen it all around. The clips are on the horizontal piece NOT and near the bend not at the bottom where the hole is. (Read step 6, take a video of removal if you need to because reinserting is tricky).

2) When you start pulling it away it can't come out straight it has to kind of bend in an S, you will break a clip, I broke the same clip on both sides. I think now that I understand how it comes off I could remove it without breaking it but it's difficult. You have to bend the bottom part with the hole kind of out and away but keep it really close to the door panel, even scraping it.

3) Since I broke the clips I crazy glued them back on, or spend the $20-30 on new pieces. But crazy glue seemed to work for me they are solid.

4) Now get a T25 torx bit. There are 3 bolts, mine had blue locktite some where tight some were not tight at all. Notice the angle so you do not strip they they are not straight up and down, I thought a long extension would help but it made it worse. I used a 1/4 ratchet with a deep socket and my T25 bit. I found a screwdriver too long as well.

5) I took out one bolt at a time added a small lock washer to it, put some blue locktite back on and tightened the bolt nice and snug. The TSB has the torque spec but I just went by feel. After only 1 bolt it was evident this solved the problem, do all three.

6) Now getting that plastic piece in (either new one or after glueing the little clip back on is TRICKY!!!!). Here is the trick, bend down and look up, there are 4 slots (sorry I really wish I had thought about taking photos). You'll see the 4 slots where the clips go. You need to line up the 2 most outside ones (closest to the mirror). But you can't just line up 2 and clip it in, the piece has to snake in along the body of the door and then clip in. Look at it carefully try to remember how you got it out and reverse it. It will seem impossible for awhile, took me 30 mins to get the first one, took me 2 mins to get the second one. Don't force anything you will get the right angle at the top then you have to slide the bottom piece in on an angle.

Good luck it was worth the hour ish it took me, no more shaking mirrors!

Not really you don't need to remove the mirror / doorpanel etc to do this at all. But it is cool to know you can get tow mirrors.

Got into this fix today and with help from a few different threads here was able to get it done without breaking tabs.
The dentist pick worked great - feeding it into the hole with the point going sort up up and left pried open the first tab with a pop. From there I used two Lego tools to work around the panel toward the front of the vehicle.
With all four tabs popped, the panel was really not free yet since the shape of it holds it in place. The pointy corner right up against the door/paint was the last thing to pry loose and the position of the panel at the moment seemed to be the key to reassembly.
The screws were no trouble - one is sort of hidden behind a wire loom... But it all tightened up very nicely with washers I had as spares.
Spending a few minutes looking at the tabs and where they seat helped with the reassembly. It is an odd shape. It needs the long edge toward the front of the vehicle partially set - not snapped in though so you can then target the two outer clips that are farthest from the door. The photo I’m including is the pre-set position before you start working it toward the outer clips.
Right when those clips go out of sight, pop - the whole things seats without any fuss.

ps: Got to thank my wife for stepping in with the spidey-sense... When she saw my prying on the drain hole with a dental pick she called whoa - do this when you have more time... gave me just enough of a pause to realize I was pulling in the wrong drain hole - and the wrong panel. Sure enough there are two panels under that mirror. A big one that covers the entire bottom of the mirror and a much smaller one directly below the pivot point.

Here’s that photo:

Had this my problem on my 08 LX. The original screws didn’t have a locknut washer or washer as seen in the attachment.

I also used a paint lid pryer/opener (free from Home Depot) to take off the plastic cover.

When reinstalling, make sure you align the clips to the proper hole. Makes life a lot easier

This place is great. Mine has this and I was about to just go start taking crap off and tightening bolts. Found this thread and my kit will be at the dealer tomorrow, $18.

Yeah, it’s a good thing they come with new plastic covers as you’re going to break the others getting them off. Also, it’s a funky star bit stubby screw driver you need to get the new ones in.
