So i put a 92 trans in my 88 runner and it has a sensor instead of a cable. So i bought marlin crawler's adapter for the back of my speedo and can not find a connector to fit it anywhere. I even tried the dealer. They want to sell my the whole harness. does anyone have any help on this one for me? Has anyone else done this?

I'm at a loss as to what you are trying to do with that connector.

First there is no way to drive a mechanical speedometer off an electrical sensor. The adapter would need to be a mechanical one that allows the speedometer shaft to hook into the sensor's position if that is even possible.

Pictures would help.

Yes that is the adapter i bought. And yes it is so that i can use the speed sensor that my transmission has with my mechanical speedometer head. The adapter uses a 3 wire electrical connector exactly like the one at the sensor on the transmission. It does not come with the electrical connector. It is just the adapter. I am Wondering if anyone knows of anywhere i can find this connector? I have tried napa, the dealer, and the wrecking yards here in the area and have not had any luck. Any help would be appreciated.

read it again.
it turns a mechanincal, (your old out put on the transfercase) into an electric signal.
it will not turn your mechanical speedo in the dash into an electronic one.
it is for putting the older gear driven transfercases into a newer truck.

Wow, Ok yes you are right. I feel like a retard. When i called marlin crawler a couple weeks ago and told them my problem that is what they sent me. Now i have no idea what im going to do. Have you ever encountered this problem?

Lets go back.... You have an 88 4Runner... originally did it have an electrical speedo, or a cable?

I didn't think they had the electric speedo's till early 90's, 92/93 with the other changes maybe?

So you got a 92 trans and it has an electric sender on the back, or a cable housing?

Ok, I was confused at 1st, but now it's ok, because I'm confused again...

Post a picture of the back of your speedometer cable, and the transfer case you wanna put it into...

They switched over to electric senders sometime after '89, but be careful as there is a small batch of trucks after the switch that got mechanical speedometers.

Yeah i have done some research and i think im just going to have to swap my transfercase out for one with a tail housing meant for a mechanical drive. So i guess its time for dual T-Cases.

Like I've said on another forum, I find it difficult to believe Toyota would change the casting of a transfer case in order to use a different type of cable or sensor..

hope this helps.
