Still trying to get all the damn vacuum hoses in the right place on the 78 FJ55. Federal carb - I've got the EGR, advancer port and throttle positioner figured out. It's the larger port to the right that's got me stumped. Where the hell does this go to?

Someone please enlighten me..

Thanks,

Ming

I'm staring at the picture but can't figure out what you mean by "the larger port to the right." The big pipe with the hose on it going behind the brake res? Or the nipple on the EGR missing a hose? Or something else?

Sorry about my poor description. On the front of the carb (facing radiator) there are four connections for vacuum lines. The connectors bring the vacuum lines to the front of the carb from the ports located on the engine side of the carb. The three to the left are for the EGR, dizzy advance and throttle positioner. Then there's the fourth, just to the right of the EGR, dizzy advance and TP (it's also slightly larger in diameter then the other three) and here's where I'm lost. The vacuum line from the top of this larger pipe goes to the nipple on the front of the air horn (got that much from the emissions manual) while vacuum hose that should go to the bottom....goes where? The hose that's stumped me would go from the brass colored nipple w/ out any vacuum tube in my photo. If I was better at Photoshop I could draw an arrow to it...but.

Thanks,

Ming

Vacuum Line

Ok, I'm going to try this again. Got Photoshop to add an arrow to the vacuum line I'm trying to ID. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Ming

Not much help here. On the later model US carbs there are only four ports on the top half (air horn) of the carb. One is the jumbo pipe coming from the charcol can which you have. Two are air bleeds for the High Altitude system, which I don't think you have. The fourth is for the choke breaker. That's just a small vac diaphram. I wouldn't think it would use oversize tubing. I'd just cap it until you find another port in need of a hose.

mine is a later model so I'm guessing here but could it go to the EGR modulator that is shown in the foreground of the picture? Mine did require a "larger diameter" hose than the standard vacuum lines. Trying to hookup everything on my 79FJ40 required the FSM on emissions - those little diagrams were a big help with all this spaghetti lines.

Got my answer

Well I finally got my answer with some help from the Tech Support line at SOR (thank for the enlightenment). Just to the right of the port on the air horn there's a number 8 stamped into the casting. The #8 corresponds to the vacuum connection to the VSV which doesn't exist on a Federal carb but would be for the Power Valve on a Calif. carb. So the long and short is that in my case it does absoutly nothing  Hey, but I've learned a little...
