If anyone can provide some guidance on installing a 22re I would be in debt. I've done other makes, but the brackets and motor mounts are giving me fits. I cannot figure out the motor mounts and brackets on the block. It is an absolute mental block.

I can pay in beer and food for services. Just help me get this this running.

Pictures in crayon would help.

Yeah, I can't wait for you to attempt to describe to me how to place these brackets onto the block. I might as well be fishing in my porcelein bowl.

This is a 1986 4runner with the original motor rebuilt going back in the exact same place I ripped it out of.

If you really need pictures I'll take them. They will be of the AC brackets, the alternator bracket and any other bracket I have.

Thanks,

Krustyroo

P.S. doesn't anyone live in SE Wisconsin on this board ?

Its gotta be better than me throwing things around the garage every week........hammer rebound nicely. Except when its drywall......

Will (NOT) Work For Food!

Dude, I sympathize with you, but you're probably going to need to pony-up more than beer and a sandwich to get a complete stranger to come by and drop your freaking engine! Most people would prolly do just about anything to avoid having to do this for themselves. But this is a friendly place, you might get lucky.

My suggestion is to post an ad on CL looking for a "Shadetree" mechanic to assist you with dropping the motor. Put it right in the autos for sale section. Emphasize the fact you don't have a lot of dough, you have mechanical experience, but you need help from someone more familiar with these import truck engines. You need to be realistic, however, and figure on paying at least $100-$150, plus the beer and food. I made a great connection this very way, and it's saved me a lot of money.

Also, not trying to be a "Richard", but a little more of a positive vibe might go a long way towards resolving these issues, and wouldn't cost you a thing.

I am positive dude. That is my sarcastic humor attempting to come out. Thanks for the replies.

I can't load anymore pictures. I reached my quota. If you wanna help get me your email and I'll send them to you. Anyone with details on how to attach these would be awesome. Thanks again for the replies. If someone needs more incentive to stop by and help out I have things to barter. I will not list them here. I will also try to come up with some dough.

Thanks dude. One down, more to go.

On the drivers side motor mount, what if anything goes underneath the front of the mount ? The bolts on the front of the mount are longer than the back. Anyone ?

I also need the hooks for lifting the motor out. Every yard around here has none. Ideas please for lifting the motor or finding the hooks. I do accept charity in this matter...........

Thanks again.

the way that bracket sits, lets call it a 'Y'

the upper left bolts to the front lower side of the p/s pump.

the upper right bolts to the back side of the pump, along with another bracket.

the bottom of the 'Y' bolts to the block.

the view is of the bottom side. the little flange on the right side goes twoards the back of the engine :D

Thanks Wristy, I knew you'd know! :D

As far as lifting the engine, when I swapped my dad's we just bolted a short chain to the front pass side of the head and the rear drivers side of the head and lifted it right out like that. You might have to take out a bolt to use the hole and find or buy some longer bolts..... His hooks were missing I think....

Just make sure you use some big washers so the bolt doesn't slip through the chain. and get them nice and tight, but not too tight as it is an aluminum head... :D

You are coming thru huge for me. Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

Here are a few links with photos of some of the hard to find a home for brackets. I know that a few of them confused me when I did my timing chain and was trying to put it all back together. They really are simple engines but no matter how hard I stare at it, there is always one bracket that boggles my mind.

I know there are more I just can't remember all of them right now.

This is a piece of cake dude... The motor mount bolts only go in one way, if you bottom out the bolt, it's the wrong one. I'm pretty sure the long bolt goes in the front, and there is a ground wire for that bolt as well (PS).

Hooks for the motor? Naw, find a bolt on both ends of the head and snake it thru a chain, yer done. Hood off to insert, or you'll fight it all the way. I will also point out that a autobbox oil pan/pickup is different than a manual (found out the hard way - tried to put a manual motor into a autobox truck)

Do as much of the assbly as you can outside the bay, then drop. Watch the wires on the PS (I used shock cords).

A bit concerned about altenator brackets pic'd as motor mounts, but how else will you learn?

I remember getting hung up on the slingshot bracket. 1 bolt goes through it and the timing cover into the front of the block, 1 bolt goes into a welded nut on the ps bracket, and 1 (I think) nut and bolt through the alternator bracket IIRC. That one took me a little bit, I saw all the empty holes but couldn't figure out how it went in for some reason.
