Need Help Fast

OK, well my local dealer really screwed me this time. I ordered a throttle cable last friday for my 1970 FJ40. I just got the truck back together today and was expecting the throttle cable. well when I went there the guy gave me a choke cable. I told him it was the wrong one and he said that was wat i ordered. and he then told me that they dont make the throttle cables anymore, and he doesnt know where to get them. so i askd for the manager and he came over and knew absolutely nothing, wat really made me get even more mad was he called my FJ a jeep. And he is the manager calling a landcrusier a jeep, he should be fired. soo i came home today and I cant find the cable on Cool Cruisers. soo im screwed becasue we have a wheeling trip planned for this weekend, does anyone know where I can get a throttle cable ( or wat i can use temporarily) for my truck.

I used a bicycle brake cable on my dad's 68 fj40 (has a 350 in it though). The lead stopper on the end of the cable fit nicely into the grove in the back of the accelerator pedel. The cost was $2.50 at the local bike shop.

I needed a throttel cable for my truck in a pinch so I went to Kragen and bought a generic thottle cable for some old chevy that was a bit longer than I needed and then stopped by ACE and picked up some cable connectors. I cut the cable to length and fabbed up an end that would work As long as it has the lead bead that will fit in your pedal (even a bike shifter cable will work) then really any cable will work as long as you get the distance right.

Just my thoughts, I am far from a master mechanic like some on this board. Good luck.

If the cable itself broke, and you still have a good sleeve, you could probably get some cable froma hardware store and fab up something. SOR might have something they can express out. (edit) P/n 042-04B-EC I think(you better check). $20

I also have been using a bicycle brake cable on my 40 with a small block. One end has a screw on cable stop, the other fit right in to the pedal linkage. So far no problems.

Dude, Autozone stocks a steel braided throttle cable that comes with a half dozen different attachment options to the throttle body...

I just bought one for the 45LV for $25 and it works VERY well. I say do that if yer pressed for patience.

As aforementioned if your cable housing is still OK you can slide a new cable through it with ease. I'm running a motorcycle cable in mine since I have them in stock. Bicycle cable works too. I once used a cruise contol cable from a junkyard when I broke down in the middle of nowhere in Kansas.

Hmmm, I wonder if he's even reading all the suggestions. An acknowledgement might be nice.

Not even sure if he's after the hand or foot throttle. Guessing it's the foot one, which I would call an accelerator cable to avoid confusion.

9/69 and newer used a cable that had a lead trunnion on BOTH ends, not just at the pedal. The trunnions on the bike cables are barrel shaped and run with the cable; the trunnion on the Toyota cable is at a right angle, and will not stay in the Toyota bellcrank unless it is so.

bicycle SHIFTER cables have the lead cylinder coaxially with the cable. bicycle BRAKE cables have the lead cylinder perpendicular to the axis of the cable.

I have seen products at the bike shop that look like the lead cylinders, but are actually hollow, tapped steel tubes that accept two small set screws. If you found a cable/cable housing set-up that would work (except it was too long), you could mount the bracket/pull knob, cut the cable housing (remember to remove the cable first) and cable to the required length, and reinstall the 'new' set screw knob....

Thanks everyone. I orderd a new one from SOR, $19.99. and i overnighted it, hopefully its here by saturday. sorry i didnt reply sooner, i had to go out and do something. and the housing is no good, my dad cut it when we lifted off the body figuring it a throtle cable how hard can it be to get.
