I’m just wrapping up my off frame resto but need some help addressing some electrical issues.

Background: I had no electrical issues before pulling the wiring harness. I did not change or modify anything with the harness.

Issues:
1. No brake lights. I confirmed the brake switch is getting power and the switch is working properly. No signal received where the rear harness connects to the main harness.
2. When the engine is running and I turn the key off with my foot on the brake, the engine keeps running until I take my foot off the brake. If I turn the key off and my foot is not on the brake, the engine turns off as it should.

All other electrical seems to work properly without quirks.

There are a handful of connectors that may be connected incorrectly. For example, not sure what connects here. These are female connectors from the harness.

And because everyone likes pics here are a couple.

Time to start reviewing a wiring diagram and making sure all the connections are correct. Most of them are pretty self explanatory, not knowing what year your 40 is, it's hard to tell .

It could be those 70 series lights up front.

I'm guessing from the 70 series lights that this is a Colombian 40? The wiring stuff they do down there can be.... creative.

I would look through that rear wiring loom to make sure there aren't bare wires hidden in there. They often simply twist wires and tape them (solder must be very difficult to come by in South America), so simply removing the harness and reinstalling it could pull the wires apart.

Check the continuity at the main harness to rear harness plug and the plug to the rear brake lights: that should tell you whether you need to dig deeper.

I'm still in phase one of my project, getting it running and roadworthy after years of sitting and abuse.

Not sure my 79 will ever get to phase two, a decent makeover, but your progress suggests it can be done!

Looks like you're in my area, based on the K plate. Mine's a 7B.

I lived in Rock Springs as a kid in the early 70s..... many of the folks I knew there may do some creative wiring too, so my thought still applies. My bet is that rear harness was likely spliced for a trailer harness.

Your 40 looks WAY better now. Nice job.

I’m in Hayden, so just down the road from you.

Thanks! Agree it is a huge difference. That said, I still love 40s with rust and patina.
