Hey all,

1996 FZJ80 total loss in Plano TX. Factory triple lockers, Toyota dealer engine rebuild, fully built. GEICO came in at $15,584 using out-of-state dealer asking prices with no Texas comps and triple lockers not reflected anywhere in the valuation. BaT comps from 60 days prior to loss range $27,500-$59,000.

Heading to appraisal clause. Need a DFW appraiser who knows the FJ80 market, has done appraisal clause disputes before, and understands locker configuration value.

Anyone have a direct recommendation from personal experience?

Thanks

No, other than the obvious, collect the highest selling prices you can find from BaT etc, all your receipts including from the Toyota dealer engine rebuild and pre-accident photos showing the condition. Seems like the dealer sheet alone (for the rebuilt engine) could have gotten close to the $15K insurance company offer depending on what was rebuilt/replaced. Search Classifieds here for similar vehicles that have sold.

Good luck amigo if you’re dealing with conventional insurance. If I wrecked my 80, I’d be ecstatic with $15K and keep as a part out. I consider it practically self insured. As Kernal said, document and fight the fight. But I wouldn’t have high hopes. For example, the value of factory lockers from an insurance standpoint would be in the hundreds at most.

Yeah, found an appraiser. Insurance said they wouldn't accept BAT sales prices as comps for ACV. I obviously provided them my complete packet of receipts, pictures, comps, storytelling, etc. But the comps on cars.com average out 25k-35k. Really hoping to end in that range because I've got about 50k in it. I think I'll get specialty insurance for any older LC going forward. Thanks guys.
