Now the white top would suggest a removalable fiberglass top right. Sure would be nice to get even something like this over here. Wonder why our Canadian brothern insist on importing RHD Japanese specs rather than looking in the Philippines for some well care for'd LHDs.

That would be because vehicles in the Philippines go through a lot of corrosion and abuse. While streets in the metropolitan areas are alright, many of the streets in the various smaller cities and villages are full of huge potholes if they're even paved in the first place. The 90+% humidity doesn't help with the rust problem either. Add to that a notoriously corrupt governmental system and corrupt officials, and you have a nightmare for getting a vehicle out without getting raped. A lot of Cruisers that come from Japan, on the other hand, are mint. Sheldon's HJ61 was so clean, it could have rolled out of a showroom. The underside of his 61 had no dirt, let alone rust. You can see the floor gleaming...heck, even the spare underneath was clean. That would be my guess anyway.

I have the possibility of going back to the Philippines for my grandmother's 90th birthday next July. If I do end up going, checking out the possibility of Cruisers from the Philippines will surely be high on my priority list while I'm there.

Just to add to Stone's comments... rust is also a major factor in here. Streets are flooded in cities a lot of times, both from clogged sewers and just because we're an island nation that's always beset by typhoons and earthquakes. Also, many 'Cruisers are workhorses and they only get the really minimum maintenance service --and yet they unbelievably keep on going. And want them to go off-road? Just drive outside the city :)

Only thing that's I disagree with is that I say it's heckuva lot more easier to export stuff from the Philippines than to import (the mentality is when you're importing, you're making a quick buck so the Customs people want their cut, and that there are lots of "protectionism" laws for the local market too). We should know, as the other half of my family is in the import/export business. ;)

BTW, any TLCA dude/dudette and IH8Mud'er who visits the Philippines will get a warm welcome here in a local pub ;) That includes you Stone.

I appreciate the offer, Drexx! Save a Diet Coke for me (I'm notorious for being and alcohol lightweight :D). If my wife and I are both able to take the time off, then next July would be the time period...most likely staying in Bacolod, but would visit the other islands.
