In re: Hamilton unit --->
GX460 Hamilton kit
TLDR: It's like a new car, everything works great, with only very few minor quirks.
My thoughts on my 2020 GX:
Easy order. Use code WELCOME35 for $35 off. I had registered once on their site for a different product announcement and at that time they had WELCOME50 for $50 off, so that might be worth a try too.
Hamilton was good about refunding an accidental $16 overpayment that I made when I failed to unclick the "shipping protection" tab that auto fills on their order page.
Very fast and free shipping - 2 days to me in Ohio.
Well packaged, and packaging feels "premium".
No written instructions, but there is a paper wiring diagram. You have to watch their video for installation instructions.
Wiring and connectors feel quality. Module itself feels well assembled. I think the modules are all the same and are set with DIP switches at Hamilton for the vehicles they are intended to be used in, and obviously the wiring is vehicle specific. Wiring included the "lime green harness" someone else made reference to in an above post, which supposedly makes the install easier than the original harness Hamilton was shipping.
Installation took an hour and was fairly easy by following the video. There were no obvious oversights in the instructions. Upper head unit / screen does not need to come out. Only the console top and the lower head unit need to be removed. The toughest parts were getting my sausage fingers in between various connectors on the back of the lower head unit to unplug them, and then having to get the wiring situated in such a way that the lower head unit was easy to reinsert in the dash.
Once installed, setup was almost immediate. You do need to delete your existing BT connection to the Lexus and also delete that phone from the Lexus. BT connection is made to the Hamilton unit only. Initially I couldn't get BT to connect to the Hamilton unit, but I restarted my phone and it connected immediately. Now it connects every time, no problems. Audio is played through the AUX setting so your factory audio needs to be set to that.
Takes under 15 sec to be up and running after engine start. Just as fast / responsive in use as factory AA systems I've used. All factory hard buttons retain their functionality. Most hard buttons only work if you switch from the Hamilton to the Lexus system first; but the important one - climate - will switch you over from Hamilton to the Lexus interface with just a long press (instead of a short one like the factory setup) to activate. A long press on the steering wheel voice control button takes you back to the Hamilton system. All steering wheel controls work. Backup cam works. Factory audio with local stations still works.
I have not tried wired AA.
I did not have occasion to use customer support.
Thus far it is glitch-free, connects reliably and quickly, and works exactly like other AA systems I've used. Feels very familiar and intuitive.
Honestly with as easy as this was to install and how well it works with the factory screen, Lexus should be embarrassed that they didn't install a factory version of this. It's particularly infuriating for us 2020 owners since the 2020 4Runner has factory CP/AA but the more upscale Lexus version doesn't.
Update 11-3-25:
I recently had occasion to drive 600 miles round trip. Each direction took about 6 hours, during which I used AA and Pandora the entire time, and Google maps to navigate one way. There were no glitches of any sort that I can attribute to the Hamilton system. There were the extremely infrequent 1/2 sec audio "blips" which I have had with other factory AA units but I believe those to be phone related and possibly cell network dropping, and not an issue with the Hamilton. Speech to text messaging and Google assistant worked perfectly. I did notice that volume readout for text messaging is very low and seems non-adjustable, but again, I have had this with other factory AA setups so I don't think it's a Hamilton issue. Phone calls worked fine as per my recipients.
The only issue that I really noticed, which is barely worth mentioning, is that if you switch away from AA and go back to the Lexus setup to adjust climate or whatever, when you go back to AA the screen doesn't display both the music and the map on a split screen; it displays only the music. The map area is blacked out. You have to open the AA menu screen by pressing the 9 dots in the bottom left corner and then press the rectangle within the square in the bottom left corner which then displays the split screen correctly. This is so minor, but it's the only issue I have found.
Also I would not consider this an issue, it's just how the system works, but because the music is played via AUX you have to be on the AUX setting on the Lexus audio to hear music. If you go to a different audio setting you won't hear music, although it will appear to be playing. This can happen by accident if you hit the "mode" button on the steering wheel so be aware of that. Fortunately the GX retains its audio settings when turned off so once you set it to AUX it will stay on that setting until you switch to another setting. Also, if you press the volume knob to turn the music off, this acts as more of a "mute" button now, which silences the music, but it will continue to play (silently) in the background. In order to actually stop the music you have to "pause" it using the AA screen control.
I remain very pleased and my only regret is not buying this sooner.
Edit 3-3-26:
Still working fine, no issues even in subzero temps. I have a spot on my drive to my dad's house that every time I go through the spot the AA glitches out and the system actually disconnects. It reboots immediately on its own and restarts AA / music / maps in seconds, and there's no problem after that. It's not time or distance dependent, it's literally in that exact spot every time regardless of if I've been driving for 20 minutes or 4 hours before I go through the location, which leads me to believe there is some sort of radio or similar transmission / interference taking place near there that causes an issue. Other than that anomaly, no issues to report over approximately 6 months and 8,000 miles in daily use.
