Received the 3 used cans today. Used being the key word. Was 1 week tot he day.

They were each in a garbage bag and collectively wrapped in cellophane. Yellow collars so assume diesel. Will want to purge the contents and prob get red ones from Daves Surplus. I took a few pics and will post those tonight or tomorrow. No damage, no abrasion marks. Looks like UV fade areas for the most part, but still a good deal for what it is.

Damn! I orderd mine before you and still have not got them. Sounds like they are in decent shape, I have no issues with uv faiding. Looking forward to getting mine, was going to stop by DS yesterday on the way to the Christmas dinner but want to see what else I need first.

Pics of the ones I received ...

Just old looking, but seems fine. Have to clean them up and purge whatever is inside ... yeah there's bit of fuel in one  I wonder what would happen if the postal guy discovered fuel? Wouldn't they toss it out and become an issue?

Not bad they look like what I was expecting. I have heard there is a way to remove the UV damaged look form them as well but I need to find that thread again. Mine got delivered on Friday but because I am in a town house the postie does not leave anything at the door (did not even leave a tag this time). All he needs to do is ring the door bell I'm home all bloody day.

Well I just picked up my 4, they are used and faded about the same as the can you have on the far right. Two are missing the fuel strap completely and two are broken (I was planing on replacing them at any rate) all the lids are good and have good seals. All cans had diesel in them before so I will need to purge two out, probably just use a couple of litres of gas and slosh them around.

One has a small wear mark on the handle but nothing to worry about.

I'll post pictures after my trip to DS tach this weekend.

DDid you get to DS? I heard when you buy a new collar, they come with the gaskets. True?

Yes I did make it to DS on my holidays. I was able to get two red and two yellow collars for about $4 each and a diesel fill neck for the two I go for my brother. They where our of the gas (18mm) fill necks when I went there. The collars did not come with gaskets but they have a box of gaskets there as well as replacement lids. I picked up a jerry can for water as well that is the same dimensions as the fuel cans so I can fit my water can in the Hanna cargo rack I have inside.

We are going to finish making Gavin's jerry can holders as soon as the weather dries up a bit and then my rear bumper some time towards the end of this year or next (need to build my whole rear bumper first).

I cant seem to figure out how to get the small end of the collar into the lid. I messed around with them for a bit but did not want to damage then by using tools. Any hints from anyone that has done it?

hey to get that end to pop into the lid easy peasy, take a socket that fits in to the spot inside the lid fuel side put on a firm surface and wack the other side with a rubber mallet.

or the easy way put that same socket in lid and put a peice of towel or something over that other side and squeeze it gently in a vise

Perfect! Thanks!

They probably still have a bunch of these used and in good condition at Westley Military Surplus in New Westminster. It's on Front Street just a few blocks from DS Tactical. I don't remember what I paid but I think it was about a third of DS's price for new ones.
