SO i have an 89' 4Runner V6.... in a few short days i will be driving it to California from Denver for my yearly family meet/Roller Coaster junkie time!! yay!!!! TO ensure its prepared for the long haul, i have Changed the oil in the engine, Axles, Tranny and t-case, lubricated the drive shafts, rewired the horn, replaced a faulty part of the A/C and recharged the puppy and flushed out the Brake and clutch lines with new fluid. yay!!! :steer:

so the Truck is rockin and i was cruising around today with my newly fixed A/C... needed to make a few runs... but then i noticed that after i get out of one of the stores... the A/C light is on... the fan switch in on... but there is no fan!!! YYEEAARRG!!!! Fan doesnt operate at any of the speeds, but the A/C clutch is still engaging:mad:

GRRRR!! i race home and bust out the FSRM... start yanking things apart....

checked everything in order.... Fuses... blower relay... Blower resistor,.. and the blower motor itself... everything passes the test!... and all the wiring appears to be in spectacular shape!!! ....now someones gonna die!!!!

Throw everything back in and then start checking the connector ends for voltage.... hmmm... thats weird.. there is voltage at the motor connector....... i plug it in and HOLY CRAP!!! ITs alive!!!!!!!! ITS ALIVE!!!....

No problems for the remiander of the night..... but why?

I had driven the truck around several hours before the issue happend... is there any sort of a "thermal overload shut down" for any of the parts? if so what should i look at replacing before the drive to ensure that the fan doesnt decide to take a break on me in the middle of the Nevada Desert? Perhaps the relay and the resistor just to be safe? Any suggestions? Never seen it do this since owning the truck Brand new....

I'd look again at the resistor...it could have micro-cracks in the wire, like a lightbulb filament that looks fine but runs intermittently. Other than that, I dunno...you fixed it without finding out what was wrong!

Could also have been a corroded connector.

Bad spot on the motor's commutator is possible. If you turn the motor a bit then it starts up would be an indicator of it being the problem.

At the fuse block next to the battery there is a large gauge white wire, this should be the blower connection. I've had to tighten up this connection several times.

The high speed setting doesn't go through a resistor, so a bad one is not likely. I'm put my money on a bad spot on the blower motor... You can pull it out and test for continuity I think... Check the FSM!

3 posts since '07!!!!! You need to come around more.... also we want pics!!! :D
