My TPMS is not working when I move my spare away from the vehicle?

Is this normal? I would think the 4 main tires should show and just the spare would say "---".

I took my spare off to get serviced and now ALL my 5 tires show "---" instead each tire pressures.

It was like this all day long. Driving and stopping various places all day long.

When I put the spare back they all show each tire pressure.

This is a 2016.

It doesn’t know which is the spare. The Toyota tpms is really limited. All it knows is a tire is not reporting. So it goes into this mode.

It's a shame too, because TPMS can have much more function. IIRC the transmitters even tell the brain what temp each one is at.. but all toyota gives us is an extremely basic readout.

If the TPMS can not get a reading from all 5 wheels/sensors it will error out and not display the values for any of them. Checking codes via Techstream will give you some more insight. The vehicle will still read the sensors and display values in live data but will not display the values on the center screen.
