Are you coming up the alaska highway or are you going hiway 37. Dean

I haven't decided the route yet... I'll leave that for when I leave for the final decision. I doubt there will be THAT many tourists so am considering the alaska highway.

Alright, started the build of the floor to the bed and the boxes yesterday as well as secured the storage boxes up above. Here are some pix:

Swedish medicine box (had a ton of swedish medical stickers on it, removed so I wouldn't get harassed as much):

The Rocket box (fluids, belts etc):

Though this looks messy, I actually know what I'm doing with knottage :) - just needed to do something extra with the leavings:

Both boxes on the truck:

Almost ready to start, seats out, side panels out and then finally carpet:

Raw cuts for the flooring and main boxes:

Testing first cut of the floor (using pine 1/2"):

Not to shabby:

Got the first box cut out and marked up the second for cutting today. At the end of today I should have both main boxes done. Pix then...

K, got the main boxes built and attached to the "floor" with a semi easy way to disconnect everything.

The little doors you see in the sides of the boxes are access ports to the empty space which allows me to grab the wing nuts going through the wood through the existing holes in the verticle supports - it also gives me a good place to put straps, gloves etc.

This "phase" for the boxes would even let me have my rear seat in. I'll be cruising without the rear seat, just wanted the capability eventually if I wanted.

...that's right, that's a tin foil trident in the gun rack, next to my axe.

...I started on the supports and front part of the floor tonight but obviously didn't get em done. That'll be tomorrow for sure.

That should be a great trip. Bring an air compressor and a tire repair kit as well. Some tubes of JB Weld should be on your list too.

Finished the front of the bed and added some more storage...

...hopefully tonight I'll do the tops of the side cabinets.

I have a cheesy little air compressor that I use for my airbrush that I'm going to bring for portability. I hope to eventually convert my AC compressor to air. JB Weld is a good idea - I'll have to add that.

good job on the interior! hope to get something similar worked out for my kzj70 sooner or later! have a good trip,

Thanx! It's been a learning experience since the cruiser isn't quite square :censor:

This all looks great. You have got to be so stoked!

Thanks for sharing, keep us all informed.

Oh I'm stoked but I'm finding that the stokedness is being tempered by working at work long hours then coming home and working on the boxes etc till 11 er 12. Hopefully I get everything prepp'd and have some time to relax before the trip begins!

Great write up! Thanks for sharing. Any problems or concerns with taking guns across the border?

You probably know this, but do you need a passport to cross over into Canada?

No problems or concerns if you take care to read through their site first.

This is the form you need to have filled out (or you can do it there - but they are more impressed/ready to work with you if you bring it prefilled out): http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/online-en_ligne/form-assistance/pdfs/909.pdf

Here is a link to the firearms in Canada FAQ: http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/faq/default_e.asp

Hopefully those help :). I've only run across two of my firearms not being able to be taken across the boarder but - I wouldn't have tried in the first place cause I like to keep the whole "harassment" and "who really needs to have a gun like that" to a minimum.

It's not "Required" to have a passport right now (that got pushed back a bit yet) but it certainly expedites things and it's the getting back into the US part that helps for.

I personally have my passport, expired military ID card (woops!), 2x concealed carry licenses, drivers license and social security card. So, even if I don't have my passport with me, I'm let in without a thought, sometimes just off of my expired military ID card.

Ok, got the top of the cabinets done:

...and got the first staining done and everything is drying (note use of broken rally car as staining stand:

...tomorrow I'll finish the staining and will probably be putting down polyeurothane on Friday which means assembly by Saturday and packing on Sunday!

Hi, when you get to Fairbanks look me up:) Don't know if you have friends you will be staying with or not. If you need a place to do any repairs or just get a shower or get together for lunch or dinner let me know. I may or may not be in town due to work so call my cell 907-347-4961 when you get close. Might be able to point you in some directions for some sightseeing trips. Stephan

Heyman! I much appreciate the offer, I'd love to hook up for dinner/lunch or something. My moms old house is up there and I use that if I have to sometimes (moms not there) but I'll hopefully be stayin in the truck most of the time.

I've saved your number and will give you a ring!

I have a rocket box - 30+years and still going strong. But, where did you get the Swedish Medicine Box? I did a google search, but wasn't able to fine one. They look useful...would love to know where you got yours?

Thanks!

A buddy of mine in my car club just "got" 5 of them at this old pharma type job he used to work at and has just been moving with them without ever having done anything with them except trade them for favors...

I measured them up once on the truck and realized both of my chainsaws in their respective boxes will fit in the pharma box

The buddy apparently has one more, I'm going to try and talk him out of it. They are virtually air/water tight.

Hey Travis,

I didn't know you were on this board! Good looking 60. That trip sounds like fun. I did it this time of year in '01 on a motorcycle. No mosquitos, but at least some rain every day.

Loved the Cassiar highway.

You going to be back for Mt. Hood?

Wow, insane Bill... What the hell are you doing here? - man, that'd be a sweet trip on a bike - hair raising at times I'm sure. Did you camp? I need to throw some update pictures up here. I'm leaving in 5 days!

So, I've started packing up the boxes and the secret doors under the bed and the power inverter is half wired.

I went and picked up the curtains last night, WOW - I'm impressed, they are SUPER freakin' nice. I'll post pix after they get hung.

I also received the bumper from fedex today! Gotta get it painted and mounted, lots to do.
