Thanks for all the info shared here guys. I replaced the crank seal and pump cover gasket before handing the keys from my '97 to the new owner (did the Dist o-ring last year as well). Followed all the tips shared here and my mechanic and I ran into no issues, other than the finicky hassles of removing each cover screw and keeping the new o-ring seated. But these notes, coupled with @Texasknowhow 's video made this job relatively painless. And even though I was at my mechanic's shop and used his lift, we did a lot of work going in from the top, so this is a driveway job for sure for anyone concerned.
