Anyone know the proper name or manufacturer for this latch on the trailer? I'd like to see if there is a locking version I could purchase and swap in.

Otherwise I'll look of ways to add a hasp to it or maybe add some additional padlock hasps....

McMaster-Carr has something similar but it would also require drilling new holes.

McMaster-Carr

Its a De-sta-co draw latch... you can find locking versions.

All nicely presented Jim, again thanks for your past help posting photos. Maybe someday I'll meet you on the trail.

On my last Death Valley trip the trailer's water tank had developed a leak. I removed tha tank and found that a seam near the lower mounting bolts had a crack. The pictures below show part of the reason that it cracked. I took the tank to Franks Fab shop in Costa Mesa to be repaired.

They charged $100 to reinforce the two lower mounting studs and reweld the lower seams, then pressure test.

The area that was reinforced is right at the lower mounting studs

The original build just had simple nylon washers on each of the four studs, not much support and might have helped to crack the seam.

Here is the trailer's frame that the tank bolted down to. This area is between the main tub and the nose box

So I decided to replace the washers with some dense rubber sheet of the same thickness as the nylon washers

Some material on all three frame sections to help mount things a bit better.

So the tank is now back in,the nose box bolted down, the batteries reconnected and the water tank filled.

I'd bet that does the trick.

Let's hope so! I think the combination of the reinforcement and the rubber sheet are a good step. I will also remember to drive slower on washboard roads! :D

Thanks! I am using a Nikon D7000 and a 12-24 wide angle for most shots. A few shots are on my trusty Canon 110 point and shoot.

Which picture for your desktop? I am amazed that you'd like to use one.

EDIT:

must be this one............. ROTFLMAO

I was looking at the blog's stats and found that a Suziki 4x4 forum in Argentina discovered the blog's post on the Death Valley Radio Expedition. They appear to be ham radio enthusiasts.

From my trip report at base camp on a mesa above Lake Powell

from the area near some of the video segments

What a great trip, I'm jealous.

Thanks! I plan these large (to me) group trips only once a year but this one was the best one. When we finally got back to pavement to air up I was sad to see that the adventure was ending.

Glad it was a great trip, You definately picked the part of the country loved by those who love adventure.
