Just bought a 1993 4x4 , 22RE, pickup, that has been abused for quite some time. Paid $400.00. Had water in the oil, pulled head and found some interesting stuff. Blown (leaky) HG, Intake leak (more water) worn out timing chain, one different piston, and the list goes on. So my father in law and I decided to just pull the whole engine and send it to the machine shop. Found missing bolts on intake, oil pan, and other pieces, and the guy from the machine shop said he found pieces of the old broken piston in the pan, nice. So the engine is being COMPLETELY rebuilt and should be done by the end of the weekend, and I should be able to drop it in early next week. It needs one CV axle, and I am also installing a new clutch with all bearings, water pump, oil pump, and if you guys can think of anything else that would be great. I will try and get some pictures this weekend. I have some other things I am working on and would like some feedback. Stock wheels, I have found from J on here, just need tires. Also, I have done some searches on this so here goes. My color code is 3K3 and have found a camper shell from a 95 tacoma, color code 3K4. My first question is will the shell fit, and how close are those colors? Hopefully the I wont find anything else major wrong! It has been a fun project, and the engine came out much easier than I thought.

I don't think the 95-and-earlier trucks and tacomas have the same bed dimensions. IIRC the tacoma is nominal 4 inches wider, and 5 inches longer than pre-tacoma. that might just be the wheel base though.

seems like a good time to get everything tip top. hoses, belts, ignition wires, PCV valve, fuel filter, water pump, fan clutch. clean the hell out of the intake before re-assembly, flush radiator and heater core. change the differential, transmission and transfer case oils (synthetic is my preference).

the topic of oils is a big can of worms that i don't mean to open here. but i would break the engine in on cheap conventional oil, and then move over to synthetic after 5-10k miles.

Thanks for the input. I am definitely doing all of the tune up stuff with new belts and filters. The intake and head are both being put on at the machine shop so he can pressure test everything. I am not sure about the oil, but I did want to run synthetic since it is going to basically be a brand new engine.
