diesel's and coils are gay.. go bags and a small block..:flipoff2::skull:

I am sorry to hear that you need to compensate for ...what ever.... with a large engine :flipoff2:.

I'll take reliability, torque, better fuel economy and everything mechanical (no electrical crap) over speed any day. Besides, in the end I'll still get there at the same time because I'll spend less time filling up my truck :D.
....and I am going with bags.

woawoa woa, 13bt = more torque than a small block chev.. hmm i dont know bout that one, fuel economy ..ok yea, but go propane. fuel millage worries are for pussies and way.. well tehere is my rant for the day..

oh and ther is no compensating for anything. just remember i come from a hotrod backround., before this offroad thing started, i drove a 400hp camaro.. so yea diesels are gay..;p

:pyea i work on em, still for girls though...

I wrote the below text before I remembered Mat likes to play submarine (with his Cruiser). So a diesel might be better for him if it has limited electrical parts
______________

I guess it's all in how you do the math and how much you drive
A proper Gas motor versus a nice diesel
not a $200 piece of s*** wrecker special chev versus a Cruiser diesel

fuel injected stroked 327 V8 chev with Vortec heads
$7000 all parts included with zero kms on it with a warranty
20 miles per gallon
350 hp
350+ ft pounds of torque
at 1.80 per litre this fall

13BT
$5000 to $7000 with 100,000 to 140,000 kms on it
25 miles per gallon
125 hp
150 ft pounds of torque
2.24 per litre this fall

swap the chev over to propane and swap the camshaft and the chev wins no problem no matter how you do the math

get the pics going so can start drooling over that rust free body and parts!

I dunno...my experience has been that a diesel can outlast a gasser on a trail...day after day. Even proper built gassers suck fuel on the trail and have to stop, add fuel...when the diesels seem to just come off the F.

Ya'll know that diesels have twice the torque per liter, and equal gassers liter for liter in HP...right?

And it does not stop there. Someone over the hills and far away once said: "A lot needs to happen to have a gasser run right. A lot needs to go wrong for a diesel to not run" Or something like that.

That's not even touching the options of looking to carbon neutral fuels.

You're right though...nothing like a race motor with open headers given'r. Oh....ya, thay have to run special high octane fuel, or are running alcohol. Gasoline...phewy....

:-)

Matt, keep on chugg'n ahead.

Do the 13BT and then we will find out who is GAY

I am starting to think you might not be feeling secure with some things. That's ok, I promise not to judge or think any less of you :D

I have always been a fan of Diesel power ever since I can remember, as long as you have a constant supply of fuel and air you don't need anything else for it to keep running. Yes we do have river crossings and some of them don't work out so well, perfect example of why a diesel is a better choice. I fired my glow timer on that trip, which shorted out and fried the glow plugs, the EDIC was having issues with the water so I disconnected it and the truck ran fine for the rest of the trip. Got me home and after a little screwing around kept driving for the next 3 days before I had time to fix it. I would have had a much longer day with a gasser.
For the most part I know I am preaching to the choir with most of you.
As for pics, I will start getting those in here after I start the project properly, but be prepared for 2 things: 1. it will take a long time to finish, 2. it will be a one of a kind when it's finished.

lol i know youll make it a wicked truck matt..

Yeah likely a 327 can get 20mpg ( maybe being pushed downhill in a shopping cart) ghostrider.

Sorry guys I was just typing outloud again. ( The Medication is Not Working yet ) LOL, LOL!

well we will save all this for another time so we dont fill up matts buld thread. but running a rollerized sbc with vortec head designed for better economy can be better than you think. anyways

Since there is some interest in the suspension then I'll share my idea, I am trying to do with air suspension/links all around. There are some nice choices for durable off-road proven air bags with bump stops and it allows me to have full control of the ride height as well as comfort.

Does this mean you won't be needing your rear leafs Fantom? I'm looking for a good set to replace the saggers I have in the rear of my FJ40...p.o. installed BJ60 diffs and leafs when he did the SPOA. Driver's side leaf pack has sagged about 2" compared to the passenger side.

Any body have a good pair of rear leaf packs from a BJ60 for a decent $ ?
Let me know,
