Thanks for the info. Probably will go with a new head. But should I stay stock or go with the upgrade street head and SS valves. And such. The plan is for my 4runner to be a DD with occasional off roading. That's what my 100 series is more for off roading. Anyways. Want to keep somewhat decent gas but want the thing to have lil bit of power. Cause the head I have now is still in. Good shape. Just not sure were to put the money. And keep decent gas mileage and have power. ( I know it's a 22re not expecting it to be a V8 but hate down shifting goin up hills.)

I used the engine builder head with bigger valves and ports along with a higher lift cam. My truck is an 86' 4Runner 5spd with 17" Taco rims, i DD this truck and see 19-22MPG, other mods are a full LCE exhaust and intake. The bigger rims and tires give me a bit of a rubber overdrive, 2800 RPM@70MPH vs 3k@70 with stock rims and tires.

So the process beginnings. Took the dive today and started dismantling the engine to get ready to rebuild her and give her a new life. this is my first rebuild. Hopefully it all goes smooth. If anyone has any advice it is welcome here. Thanks

Well got it sent off to the machine shop looks like it was rebuild once before. Crank and cylinder board .01 over and number 4 cylinder had a nice gouge in it. So we will see what they say. Hopefully it will be rebuild able if not guess I'm gonna order a new short block from toyota. Oh well let's see what happens.

Thanks

Need help! Took block in to machine shop number 4 cylinder had some bad gouges in it but think it's too deep to bore out. What the largest that u can safely do on a 22re. I've read that bout 04 over anymore get a lil washy. Plus the crank has been ground once at 01 over so not sure what to do with the block. Please help
Thanks

Can't you just find a used motor to rebuild that's not gouged? There's a ton of blocks available for sale in my area....

Think I'm gonna just bit the bullet and get a new short block from toyota been looking for a used block to rebuild and the money I might save isn't enough anymore so for total of $2800 and have a brand new engine versus $2000. Doesn't make much since to rebuild it so think in goin with the brand new. But thanks for the comments

Got any part numbers for the new engine? Just curious. Sent from the islands.

So it's been a while since I posted but been doin a lil research and I'm going a head and doin a swap to 3.4 have a donor vehicle and probably goin to start this week pulling and cleaning can't wait to get started

If anyone have info on what to keep in the engine bay of my 86 4runner 22re it would be a lot of help, been reading forum for bout a month think it I know but would like to hear from someone that has done the swap. Planning on painting the bay while I'm cleaning. Plus if anyone is around the Birmingham arena that could lend a hand that has den this before. I would been more than willing to supply the beer and steaks Thanks

So it's been awhile since I posted I've been a busy lil bee. So the engine I had had a gouge in the #4 cylinder but the engine ran good when I pulled it apart so figured why not put it back together and see what happens.
So I did, I wanted to keep prove to a minimal so I used what I could and replaced all the gasket and cam bearing and put her back into the truck.
Well first attempt left me a lil frustrated Bc the engine wouldnt turn over and couldn't roll it over by hand or with a wrench. So I left it for bout a month and got a renewed energy and went back at it. So com to find out I over righted the crank bearing luckily I didn't marr up the crank. Put new bearings and tightened them correctly and bam. She cranked right up. Was relieved by that.
Had a few issues with vacuum line but once sorted out she been running great. Not sure how long the engine is gonna last but I'm in the process of finding a good block and starting from their.
So spent a day buffing and waxing her and she a beaut again. I also bought a new set of rims and tires. Also made a make shift canopy out of some vinyl I found on sale and lil wood and some ratchet strap. It's not the best but function well for what I need
