x2, my thought is that you should put it in a container w/ a destination of Houston, TX.

I wish we could get diesels over here. Now, lose that front brushguard and those running boards. Step two, solid axle that beast and run some gears and lockers and get it going right :D

My thought is find and send me an inclinometer (prepaid/free) and make up for the lack of posting since you layed dormant!! :D

Nice catch! 2nd Gens FTW!!

Manual or Auto??
What gearing??
WetSand and polish or just re-clear the peeling topcoat.
Go through and clean all the weatherstriping out, do the fender rocker's, pull the cowl and clean out the three areas where junk gets trapped to prevent rust (or POR-15 to stop/treat existing rust).
If you're not familiar with what I'm referring to with the bodywork on a 2nd gen Surf/Runner let me know, I've done a lot of preventative body maintenance on them over the years both for customers and myself, and am more than happy to do little write-ups for IH8Mud.
(*Thus why my 95's so clean.)

Here..Fender/Rocker Maintenance link(for an example).

I am really happy you posted a picture, I have sent my runner to paint and was a bit unsure about the color I have picked. But after seeing yours I am positive I made the right choice! Thanx!

O/T but no problem...one of these days I'll take care of doing some write-ups here. I'm glad to have inadvertantly helped.

Your rear springs a sacked, and ya that bush gaurd needs to go. Otherwise really nice truck!

I have had one for 2 years now. my word of advise is. don't baby it. Pound that 2L-TE untill the head cracks and replace it with a 3L head. I did mine a year ago and now have no worries of it cracking again. Engine runs allot better too.

Nice truck, have fun with it. and feel free to ask any questions about it.

Here's mine

**Saggy rear coil springs**

If you don't want to go as high as a 4-5" lift like with 80 series coils, the new Prado/FJC coils are an exact match for the HD Coils available. Most 4wd shops stateside that have been swapping these out when doing bracket lifts usually chuck them, not knowing their worth.

Mine has the older style (gold colored version). Your LSPV bracket needs to be 4" with the holes centered to 3". (IOW 1/2" in on top and bottom) then measure the hydro pressure in the rear using the FSM to get it adjusted back to spec.

All totaled out I ended up with just shy of a 4" lift and less than a couple hundred spent.

NorCalBorn, it would be awesome if you could share some of your knowledge on keeping these trucks in tip top shape.
I have a '95 extra cab truck in pretty good condition and I would like to keep it that way.

I have a '94 that WAS pretty and clean...

for about two months after I finished the build.:D

Driving through stuff like this takes its toll on the body quickly.

Nice! :D I never hinted at preventing body damage, but can definitely help you by taking your keys away while I play with that beautifully modded truck! ;)

Back on topic..Simple preventative measures like pulling the door weatherstrips, cowl, etc. and actually breaking out some soap and water, a toothbrush, and baking soda. (The baking soda inhibits rust, and if you use Palmolive soap, the oil in it also helps.) Finish with a good polish and wax. Detail shops that offer the undercoat/hot wax will keep the frame in a good protected state, which I use every 6 months or so just to have it done since i don't have a lift and hot sprayer for that.. I went as far as to actually pull the door panels recently and wax/seal the innards so the insides were clean, sealed, and assured the drain passages were clear. I then really cleaned off the innards of the seals inspecting for corrosion and reinstalled them, or replaced as needed.

FWIW, as I remember, most if not all 4Runners came from Japan with a wax sealing undercoat. Mine lasted about a year at most, best investment as far as prevention in my opinion, and even IIRC offered when these guys do import sales, aside from the tougher undercoat:

Outback Imports-CAN

Service Packages: Outback Imports - Outback Service Package (OSP): Complete Maintenance Package for Toyota Landcruiser 4x4 Trucks

A decent writeup: Ricochets Rapid Detail: Preventing Rust from Road Salt

..and a forum source: Car Detailing - Autopia.org

Also, if you plan to tow, haul, or even travel loaded down an aftermarket transmission cooler is advised. (Pics of that are in my sig link.)

Great rig! Mmmmm...diesel!! x2--loose those kooky running boards ASAP. I'm also not a fan on the itty-bitty mirror-like thing pasted to your hood. Yet, I am one of the only people who likes the brush guard. So, to each their own my friend. You have a sweet rig. Enjoy!

It is a Mirror, it's there because it's a Japanese market Hilux.
