Bought the wife an 80 for a DD, love it so far, it's a 93, no diff locks. Anyway it seems to go into neutral just a bit on the 2-3 upshift, normal throttle, under hard throttle it shifts hard and no slippage. PO just had $800 worth of maintenance, included was a trans service. Is this something that I should address or SOP?

Congrats on the 80 purchase, Butch.

Be sure to call Christo and get the cup holder. Ya need something to hold your latte while you put in a new cd.

Resistance is futile.... you will be assimulated.

The cup holder is only 95 and later. No spot for it on the early dashes.

Butch, I think you did alright! I think that was a heck of deal! Does it do it when you put the ETC (Power button) on? My 94 has 196k on it and it doesn't hesitate on shifts at all.

Good luck on figuring it out! Also, never mind Junk he's always upset I think it has to do with driving the beater edition.

The relation between cat replacement and transmission shifting it is likely due to the fact that 1) with clogged cats you will be using more throttle to maintain any given speed and 2) the firmness of the transmission shift is in part controlled by the throttle cable - more throttle, firmer shift.

I am driving my buddies '93 right now and it slips between 1-2 and 2-3 with 157K miles on it. My '94 with 190K miles is perfect. I adjusted his TV cable and it shifts a lot stronger. If it is like other Japanese vehicles I have worked on the TV cable adjusts pressure in the trans. I still think the clutches are thinning causing the prob, but if it lasts longer with positive shifting and less heat from slippage it will get a little more life. The ETC with higher shift points should help but decrease fuel mileage and a fluid change can't hurt.
