ok i saw something that might be worth sharing.

while removing vacuum lines per the instructions on the "desmog manual" i have fuel weeping out of the HAC top most port. i used my knife to slit the vacuum line so its easier to remove without breaking any of the plastic ports and fuel immediately seeped out.

what does that mean? anyone experienced this before? i plan on donating this smog equipment to mud members and need to know if this is toast or not. (i dont need HAC since i live and will remain at sea level +100' or so)

here are some pics. the last one shows the bottom port where fuel just dumped out lol

and yeah that is my finger after i cut it. duct tape is a wonderful invention

update

ok couple things happened.

i broke off both the darned bolts that attach the egr pipe to the exhaust manifold, so im gonna have fun there.

also i discovered that somehow i managed to break off port A of BSVS(1). if i can get one from toyota or somewhere, anyone got a part # for that?

one other thing, and i cant find this labelled or talked about on any picture or diagram(im prolly just blind) but what is this?

its a port that goes either to the bottom of the carb, or to the intake

One of the things that is hard to follow is the inner vaccum advance port on the dizzy (the one closer to the cap)...it goes over the top, around back into one of the vacumm ports on the side of the carb that faces the valve cover.

thanks a ton trapper.

i fabricated up the block off plate for the egr pipe today, now to get my brothers welder so i can get that covered. and also to get the j pipe blocked/welded shut.

i think what is frustrating me and screwing me up is i get to work on this only a couple hours at a time and the gaps between that are making me forget where i was and what my plan was.

thanks for all the help, and forgive me if i ask the same questions over. but i really want to get this old girl running in top shape. i used to be addicted to my jeeps back in the day, but i cant recall a vehicle that has grabbed me by the cohones like this cruiser lol...

thanks again

Jason

No problem...I myself took blue masking tape and a sharpie and labeled each end and where it went...that way, if I had to tear down, I knew where everything went. Especially as it related to things I plugged in prior to putting the air filter assembly back on vs. after.

<snip>

I broke off one. Get a 1" freeze plug, put it on the anvil, get your 2# ball peen hammer, stick the ball side of the hammer into the open side of the plug, bang on the hammer face with something like a plastic hammer or regular hammer with a pad in between (avoids those nasty flying chips of hammer) testing for fit now and again, when it just doesn't fit, drive the freeze plug into the egr port on the manifold. Since I had one bolt left, I put the block off plate over that with one bolt.

This sounds like a plan. unfortunately i cannot get back to her until sunday...perhaps saturday night.

The exciting part is trying to pound the little b*****d in. . . "Where to stand? Lay down? I know, I'll pull the engine, then I can get to it."

I am looking for this "desmog manual" in PDF format everyone is talking about. where can I find it and download it?
