Parts search has began!

Fresh W56 waiting to go in....:wrench:

Not much done mechanically yet as I'm still collecting parts.

I did yank the seat out and replace the padding/foam as the original was almost totally gone.

I got a quote of $450 to do it at a professional shop. They were going to completely recover it also, but this seat was in good shape except for the foam so I decided to do it myself.

As it was when taken out

PO's attempts at fixing the problem.

Original padding that measured less than 1/2"

Hard to tell but two broken springs behind drivers back. I removed the center spring and replaced the main spring behind the back. Then used a portion of another broken spring to repair the second broken spring.

Local foam shop had some coffee burlap bags.

I got on a roll and forgot to take pics. I placed 2" foam over the burlap, then used the original seat cover.

I used the seat back padding under the molded polyurethane seat foam to give it some extra firmness also. I also placed burlap over the drivers side springs in in hopes it would firm things up also.

Over all it took about 3 hours. I'm very happy with it, and SAVED quite a bit of money. SO much better when your lower back does not hit the lower crossbar every little bump you roll over!

Now time to shampoo...

*I hate to be posting about where someone can buy stuff, especially since I am not an employee of either place I am speaking of nor do I have a star, nonetheless, both of you can feel free to take my reply into pm form.

~MudHunter, given any thought to just restoring it with a replacement bed from California or Nevada? Those beds are a dime a dozen out this way and personally, unledd in it going to be beaten down around the in the hills, I'd go that route, heck you might even be able to find one in a matching color.

~Jerod, are you serious b/c there's one down here and it's up for sale. Complete, engine w/ trans and harness. We're talking less than 5 hours south of you. :D
Turns out......... I really need a 1KZ-TE...... like real bad!

Yes, Jeff Moskovitz is his name. I thought he only had 2 or 3 gauge pods. Doesn't matter since you should have no problem finding three gauges to stuff in there. Also, there was another company out there selling them, but I would rather do business with Jeff, Truckpillars.com.

Just found this thread. Made contact with Jeff. He no longer makes these pods. He did point me in the direction of his supplier that he used. LoTec. Ordered one but I'm uncertain about it, especially for the price.

There used to be a great community at toyotadiesel.com, but most of the guys moved on. I've had four of them and am still running my 87 2LT today. Third engine and the best yet. Still lots of good info in the old posts on that site though.

I will say this: get a bypass filter on there; preferably a Frantz. It makes all the difference. Every few months fill that truck box with sandbags and take her for a long highway run, preferably up hills. They need a regular workout to keep the rings free and the cylinder bores de-glazed.
