Well,
I'm back in an 80. I scored this one in FL. One owner, lockers, 128k. I have all the maintenance records too. The PO just had all the fluids changed and checked. I'm pretty pumped:bounce:

I do need to change the valve cover gasket and change out some cracked vacuum hoses. Other than that its ready for mods.

Man that looks like a clean rig. Tooo clean to go wheeling. Congrats.

So that's what a stock 80 looks like! :D Nice!!! At least a '95 looking at the front grill?

Remove or relocate that trailer electrical connection before you go do even anything mild - it'll rip right off.

Details/plans for mods???? Inquiring minds want to know how we can help you spend YOUR money!

Well,
First things first, get rid of the tow package and running boards. I also want to do some more PM stuff (valve cover and vacuum lines). I will call Cdan for that. I have a noisy pully somewhere. I believe its the alternator pully....not critical, just bugs me.

I scored a used OME 2.5 lift for free that I will use for now. I need front and rear bumbers (ARB front and prolly Slee, Hanna or Kaymar for the rear). Iv'e been keeping my eyes open on the Parts For Sale section. Dual batteries and upgraded headlight harness (Slee) is on the list also.

That should shrink my bank account for a while.

$.02 - if you don't need to tow, go with Hanna or Slee. I whacked my PS rear pretty good this past weekend and the support bracket under the outside wing actually flexed up and creased the rocker panel on the rear quarter panel a little. Ripped off the trimmed up mud flap too! My fault for not paying close attention in a little rocky section of Rodriguez Canyon.

Much better support and angles on Ken and Christo's bumpers IMHO.

I also like 4x4Labs too. I guess if you just buy the kit, its a bit cheaper. My only problem is my welding skills are not very good.

I did this exact thing at Cleghorn. I couldn't believe it could flex that much.

I'm wanting to set it up for Expo stuff. I spend alot of time in the Panamint/Saline Valley/DV area. No rock crawling here....mild wheeling. I really like your set-up Dave.

I just dropped a couple hundy with Cdan on valve cover gasket, and other the other hoses and seals he recommended. It just passed smog, so thats a plus. On to DMV hell in the morning.

Even mild rock crawling will sometimes bite you...as what I did. It wasn't anything particularly difficult. I just came down to fast and therefore hard.

Couldn't agree more about the flex. The one scratch is a good couple of inches above the top of the wing and now a nice little 2" dimple back there too. At least I didn't split open the panel which would allow water in!

Kaymars new rear 80 series bumper...

Dual cans now, gas strut assist and LED tail lights...

If i didn't spend so much money going to dual spares and swapping out my swing outs , i'd think about it.

dual cans? darn, they finally listened to me...!

Fawk you Dave for posting this! Wonder if the dual can swing out will retrofit to the older bumper?

Just sent an email to Kaymar sales email address in Australia and asked if this new dual jerry can swingout would work with older model bumpers for our 80 series Landcruiser. We'll see if I get a response.

Given that MAF sells the single can swing out for $565 and they are the ONLY US distributor, I'd just guess that the dual would be going for a good $700 (just a guess). Kaymar may be available from other shops like TLC, but they buy their product from MAF. MAF is just listing a RH side jerry can swing out available. Assume the RH side means passenger side and that's where my tire swing out is. I'd been tempted in past to get a DS swingout and have a 2 or 3 can platform similar to Hanna's fab'ed up for the swingout but never did it because of the price of the swingout to begin with!

I'm diggin that bumper.

The shipping cost from Miami to my door step was $900. The company I delt with (Tow Max) could have got it here for $700, but they did not have any trucks going west for a couple of weeks. Tow Max subbed it out to another carrier. From what I have heard $900 is the going rate for coast to coast.

Brent, don't know if the swing out will work on the old bumper. .. but i do know that they sell the piston assit retrofit kit for the older bumpers.. so its entirely possible. I doubt they'd go to all the work to re-tool the arms after the 80 has been out for so long. That being said I bet the new ones bolt right on.
