Also, if you look at 06 and 07, I added some makeup oil that I thought I needed. That could skew the numbers. Since 07 I no longer add makeup oil.

Indeed it is. We get definite "winter-like" conditions in ABQ during the thick of winter. Not Ohio winter, but definite winter conditions especially considering I use the truck a lot in the mountains surrounding ABQ (10K+ feet).

im getting ready to start my ohio winter. what would you guys suggest i run oil and filter size wise? ohio has been getting hotter summers and colder winters in the last few years. i am not up on all this oil tech.

i used mobil clean in a 22re once and blew a used motor up in 6 days. a guy told me that mobil clean has detergents in it that might have loosened up deposits and crud in my motor that could have blocked my passageways leading to failure...i dont know if there is any truth at all to that. but ive been kind of leery since then.

Oh yeah. That's when the BS CJ-4 diesel oils came out. Oil formulas had to reduce additives because of the ULSD requirements and exhaust particulate filters.

YOHda, I don't think that oil (Mobil Clean) had anything to do with the engine failure. Seems unlikely. I've been running Mobil 1 15-50 in my rig. No oil analysis, but very happy with it and our winters are much colder than yours :flipoff2:

I only switch oils because of the heat in the SW. If I wasn't in the SW, I would run synthetic Rotella year round with the small OEM filter.

I like the heavier weight oil with the bigger sumping -41010 filter for the summer months (which is when I use my rig the most in extreme conditions).

The Delo and the Rotella are the same weight at operating temperature. The only difference is the Rotella pumps better in cold weather. Both are great oils.

Rotella 5w-40 and Mobil 1 Truck and Diesel 5w-40 are both perfect for all climates. I also love the Mobil 1 0w-40 but it has a tendency to burn quickly in these trucks.
