My 55 Is getting auto body and Paint Free!!! Maybe you can too..

I live close to Boise, Idaho; and I attended Boise State University. I heard while I went there at the tech school that at the mechanic school and auto body shop that they did it for free you just have to buy the parts. Well, at the auto body school you have to apply, I applied which all it was, I called the auto body teacher and took my 55 in for him to look at. All my auto body work for $150. Fall semester and depending on Paint $400-$700 spring semester paint. The only draw back is they will have it most of the school year.

Look in your area schools for this benefit. I looked at several vehicles they did and they looked real good. Better than Maaco but not a hot rod.

Its a good idea--I checked our local tech school but a message stated they were not taking any outside work at this time--I bet if they saw the 55 they would say WOW! This is frickin unique....so I will check again and try to speak to someone

They cut out all the rust, sand blast each spot, use por-15, and then weld in new sheet metal. It will save me all kinds of time and money and equipment. Even if I have to redo some of the work after its done. I took it to a body shop here and town that does restore full paint and they said min $6k for body work only.

I am mainly looking to get the interior sealed off and get the rust fixed I am not real particular about the paint.

Damn! I live in Boise too, also a BSU grad. A friend of mine's Uncle is the dean of the BSU vo-tech shop, so my friend and I were talking, and he said he could get me in there. So I sent him pics of my pig, and waited to hear back, and nothing. This was in February, so I had pretty much given up on this, but now I'm pissed at my buddy (but happy for you)!

I'm going to try for Spring semester now...They can practice on yours.

Just curious, how bad is the rust on yours?

i did that with my old motorcycle...got a pretty nice custom paint job and had the fairing fixed after a minor speed inflicted booboo

Front and rear quarter panels, Fronts have already been patched, Rockers need replaced,
Floor boards are all 4 rusted through but are patchable.

Is yours a Daily Driver. There are only a few in town that I know about.

Mine's not any kind of driver right now. Sitting in the driveway. PO in McCall had the smog pump freeze up, broke his belt, and on a 79 you can't run without the smog pump or an idler pulley, and he just gave up on it. I'm going to do an engine swap, gathering parts for that now. He had pulled the carb off, and started a de-smog, so it's a jigsaw puzzle right now.

What color is yours?

The previous owner did a chevy 350, 4 speed and 205 t case. The owner before that did some textured black paint on the bottom and white top.

Still completing the swap and fixing the homemade spring over lift. Out of Meridian but hoping to have a good cabin car in Cascade.
