I had a 8'X6' sheet of 3/16 steel. It was cut to ruff dimension yesterday. As the mater of fact that is what I did yesterday. I have had it since 2000 and the garage had to be disassembled to get to it. I almost forgot how much it weighed, that is why I cut it after I pulled it out.

The flat bed to the frame mounts are done. This is an area that not allot of guys share on their build sites. I spent allot of time searching but could not find much if any information or pics of the way it is done. So, I did it my way.

The front was the toughest it has about 8 inch drop from the flatbed frame to the mount on the truck frame. I wanted to make sure that since I installed a 1.5 inch body lift, I followed using 1.5 inch spacers to the bed. I made a metal spacer to use as a blank for fitting. The front mount is made from 2 X .250 bar stock and 1 X .250 bar stock. The 2 inch stock was bent in my press brake to the shape of an "L" then welded to the under side of a bed frame tube. After doing this I realized it would have been stronger if I placed it on the side of the tube, more surface. I then ran 2 1 inch gussets down from the underside of the tube to the outer edge of the "L". Then welded all surfaces that crossed with each other. It turned out pretty strong. The middle mount, I use 2 X.250 angle stock, and welded it to the side of the bed frame tube.

The rear mount was a small bit more difficult than the middle mount, it had to be notched to fit under one of the cross tubes on the bed frame.

The rear is the only bolt that will be upside down because of the location of that cross brace. I could not use a nylock nut because of the clearance issue. The yellow nut is a grade 8 that will be tacked to the bracket.

Well the frame is apart again. I have been pondering how the floor is going to fit on the flatbed. Putting over the lower rails was the original thought, the problem is how am I going to fit it through the top rails. Also I am not fond of the edge of the floor showing. To fix the problem I am going to lower the cross bars enough so the floor is even with the lower rails, so they frame the floor. I must have used 10 lbs of wire but it is best I do it right.

I spent the day installing the floor. Then mounted the bed back on the truck.
The welds are 1 inch wide and 6 inches apart for the floor.

The wheel wells are bent and tacked in place. I cut the material with my plasma and formed the wells with my press brake. I will weld in the wells tomorrow if something does not come up.

Welded up one of the wheel wells. I ground and blended in all welds possible.
Sorry for the pic quality.

The bed is looking nice. Your mounts are clean and the bed looks like it is matching the cab body lines nicely, planned or not.

Random side note, what magic is holding up the 4 jack stands on that wire shelf. I need some of that mojo to have a place to store mine.:)

Thanks, I did want the lower rail to follow the trim lines on the truck.

The shelves came from Homedepot. They are the metal rack shelving. Hell I just set the stands on the shelves and they held them up.

During the week I welded the other wheel well. No need for a pic of that, it look like the last pic. Yesterday I removed the bed for more welding. Today I built the headache rack and the rails. Tomorrow I will work on the tire mount and bracing between the rails.

I know it is a mess but, I said the hell with it and will take care of it when I start tomorrow. Her are the pics.

The wife wanted to see a movie, yea I need to step away for a while, so i just welded in a couple of bars then put the bed back on the truck. I do not have any more welds close to the cab to do, they can be done with the bed on the truck. The stuff welded on was a bar across the headache rack, this is for mounting the propane tanks. The tanks will stand upright. I also welded in the cross bracing for the rails. I did not have enough time to install the tire mount bar.

I was wondering if it was getting a headache rack or not. That thing looks super sweet. I really like it.

Thanks guys.
Some guy at MC said it looked "forkliftish" and my wife is calling it the "runt". I like it just the way it is.

Forkliftish?? I don't get that. Once you get the misc. add-ons put on it, I think it is going to look very clean.

thanks jynx

A bunch of cutting welding and grinding happened but little to show for it.
I built the rear frame and incorperated mouints for the rear winch. I installed the down tubes for the frame before I installed the winch supports, the down tubes follow the fairlead tubes. The mounting tubes are off a bit to center up on the mounting. I also notched for shackle mounts to the frame. They will be cut out later if at all, I will add if needed.

Then I simply cut out the rear plate and stuck it to the frame.
