I always just calculate off the trip meter, reset at refueling. Like I said, it's all relative. From full, I was lucky to hit 200 mi on the trip meter to low light, which usually seems to be 21-22 gal to full. Figuring I'm about 9-10% off, that still puts me right around 10 mpg... however, I'm a bit on the heavy side (had roof top tent on, front steel bumper with winch, rear steel bumper with 5th wheel swing out), and always keep ECT on and have a heavy foot, along with the mitigating factors I mentioned previously (cracked coils, cracked exhaust manifold that was getting worse)
I did have a sky box on the rails for the winter season and removed it , sure that helped the big MPG numbers

After I cycle a full tank of gas through first correct? I was told if the oil is fresh to just change filter?
I was told that 44K can slip past the rings and severely dilute the oil, so they always wanted an oil change when it was used. I trusted the mechanic who took care of those vehicles for several 100K miles. In my case, I would drop in the 44K one tank before oil change time so it all lined up on the maintenance schedule. I don't think changing just the filter would buy you anything in this case.

Speed apps for your phone are pretty accurate. Get up to speed (the higher the more accurate your result will be) and set your cruise control. Divide the number in the app by the number on your speedo and you’ll have your exact correction ratio.
I think I checked GPS distance on my phone between two points, then ran it on my odometer once, but I don't remember the factor. Seems like GPS said 18 and my odometer got 17 or something like that.

Gotcha🤙🏻

I hate to be that guy, if you hand calculate your roll out, gallons and miles, its going to be way less than what the computer is telling you... did this in my GX from dead empty with weighed and measured fuel and roll out it was off by 3.7 mpg...

Please educate me on "weighed and measured fuel and roll out."
I understand that the computers kinda suck.
But are you weighing your fuel and measuring the volume to get density or something?
What is "roll out" and how is it measured?
What is the formula for calculating mpg with all that information? I'm speculating that "weighed and measured" has a formula that produces the g in mpg?

1 us gal 6.1lbs and 128oz 25gallons is roughly 152.5 pounds my roll out at 35psi is 35.1 thats approx 593revolutions per mile... I had my odometer corrected. so i know i can rely on the odometer and ten i run it till my gas light comes on.. at that point thats my real MPG its usually within 1 pound. i also have access to a certified scale so that helps. im in so cal and the gas stations cheat on what a actual gal is so if im calculating milage ill weigh a gallon. against what the station pump. i raced circle track so fuel calculations were always done by weight

I'm running 10ply K02'S (for now), looks like GPS speed is +2 or 3mph

Yo! Suck It Prius drivers✌🏻

2006LX 164k miles, have ko2s
Mpg about 11-12. Need to fix a small exhaust leak but have replaced one aftermarket cat due to failure and all o2 sensors, coils
I just installed spark plug non foulers in my downstream 02 sensors as my Cats rot....keeps the PO420-430 CEL off my dash

What size tires?

I did a roadtrip only going 62ish mph on cruise control. Got around 18mpg on my 2000 lx470 33 e-rated ko2s. It's doable, but you have to keep the speed down down. If I went to 70, it'd probably be around 15ish.

Exactly- the 18.8 mpg was the same for me on the highway. But even in 45-55 mph areas I'm seeing biggest mpg numers ever

What size tires?
Can't remember. Wife has it out of town right now, or I'd go check. I had previously wondered, and I read the sticker on the door pillar and saw the tires on there had a higher sidewall aspect ratio. I also get a tiny bit of rub turning hard. My guess is the previous owner wanted a cheap little lift or something.

You've sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole.
I see how you get gallons. I guess you're assuming a standard temperature because it's from underground tanks?

I had to make enough assumptions your roll out discussion that I thought I'd better do some googling.
Roll out appears to be circumference of the tire (which I had guessed).
5280'/593revs = 8.9039'/rev or 106.85"
106.85/pi is 34" diameter.
What is the 35.1 in your calculation?

Can one correct one's own odometer, or does someone else do that?

Lutz Auto sells a speedometer correction kit that also corrects the odometer. The 100 series one is $119 and looks pretty easy to install.
