If you are primarily driving in maricopa county, you have to pass maricopa county smog. Not sure how, but they figure it out pretty quick if you have out of county registration and they will go after you for it.
the year tabs are opposite colors, black on white vs white on black, for example.

Well damn. What a bunch of absolute BS. Good thing I live in the arbitrary "Area A" so I don't have to worry about it, but still. More government overreach.
Yeah, its a bummer. When I was going to college in PHX, I still lived in flagstaff and the university held my degree until my 80 had a valid maricopa county emissions cert. That took 2.5 months after I passed emissions. After I moved back to phoenix for a while but did not change my DMV address, I got a notice on all 3 of my vehicles within a few months. Now I live back in flag and things are great once again.

Aboiut 25 years ago, my dad was ticketed for his 72 ford work truck and our suburban that were registered in forest lakes. the fine was something like $600 on each vehicle and we were dirt poor. I remember him putting a 2 barrel carb on the big block and running alcohol to get through emissions. The alcohol fumes were so bad at the emissions place that everyone was choking, eyes watering.. Somehow he got through doing that every 2 years until he retired that truck lol.
