Hello everybody,

I'm looking for your opinion/tips about mounting my TRED/maxtracks.
I can't do it on the roof (already taken by the tent).

My main idea is the side of the car over the read side window like that Defender :

(from : https://www.rafikiontour.com/vehicle/outfitting-rafiki/tred-pro-recovery-boards/)

I know that the LC side is not flat so I think there is 2 way of getting around :
- use a spacer (a metal square tube) between the top rail and the car
- use a longer bolt on the top rail

Another possibility, is to find a way to mount those on a rear bumper tire carrier but I need to find someone who can make a adapter (and also buy a rear bumper ...)

What are your thoughts ?

Thanks

@LARRYG36 did something similar to carry Jerry cans

Not my style, and I have issues poking additional holes in the body, but to each their own…

I'm running out of storage space for stuff too. One thing that would make it easier is you did gull wing windows, it would be be pretty easy to install something like this on those. Less traumatic drilling those than through your car's body. Or convince victory 4x4 or somebody to make a version of this for the 100 series.

I plan to get a gamiviti roof rock safari style and hold at an angle of the side bars of the rack.

I will admit i've been around alot of Land Rover people in my life, and the stuff we did in the Military. I.E hanging or mounting gear on the sides of vehicles.

Keep in mind that you will want all that stuff to block your driver side rear window, not the passenger side, so if US put em on the left!

you guys can see out your windows when you go on trips? lol

I was going to do so much more mods. but with gas prices and my wife's back and the kids gone it mostly just sits, I do go on some club meets/trails but not many anymore. I use it more to pull our s*** trailer to the land fill now. She was such an Awesome ride in the early 2000's, We lived in Northern California then, alot of road trips to So. Cal for Disneyland, Universal Studio and the Beaches, Nevada and Utah and even Baha Mexico to watch the races. She's 24 yrs old now and still going strong. I've taken a lot of crap off the engine and exhaust to squeeze out more milage, looking at 1 or 2 on demand Hydrogen generators for she next.

The victory 4x4 is available for the 100. Just need their rack. I would imagine you might be able to fashion a bracket to fit to your rack.

  • Bolts to Victory 4x4 Roof Racks and securely mounts to either driver or passanger rear window using a vacuum suction cup.
  • CNC cut and formed from 3/16" aluminum.
  • Includes mounting hardware.
  • Mount Rotopax fuel, water, quick fist mounts, etc.
  • Fitment verified on 4Runner (4th & 5th Gen), GX (460 & 470), & 100 Series Land Cruiser with Victory 4x4 Roof Rack.
  • Recommended 20lb weight limit on side panel + shovel/axe etc on roof rack bracket.
  • Proudly designed and made in the USA.

There is an Aussie version of the mount on the D110 above that flips open and becomes a table. I've fantasized doing on of those on my 100 since flat space when camping is always in short supply. Maybe adapting one of these to the 100 if you've already decided to drill through it?

Good thread, I don't have a clean place to mount Maxtrax on mine either, I already have enough crap hanging off the back of this thing.

I'm confused what is holding it up on the bottom of the quarter panel window...it looks like a suction cup. If you had an aluminum gull wing you could probably attach a little more securely and maybe hold more than 20lbs.

Edit: according to the diagram at the end it is indeed a suction cup.

Suppose to be a heavy duty suction cup.

Hmm that's pretty sweet, sound like the mount are pretty adjustable/universal. You could just take it off when you dont need too. And you can turn it longways which may be better for a 100.

Yeah.. Been staring at it for months. Trying to figure out if I want to make a bracket so it works with the stock roof rack.

@prospeed also offers an accessory side panel. I have only seen the one for the GX's however.

I've wondered if you could replace the glass with an aluminum panel and use the existing hinges/latch. I would think it would be fine at all speeds with the panel closed, and still allow you to open the panel when slow speed/smooth trails. The extra weight may stress the hinges when open at high speed or jarring trail.
