fj40 4.3 inline 6, have skip, backfire, black tips on spark plugs, low on power, I have changed plugs, fuel filter, have electronic ignition, What else to look for , thanks

Set the ignition timing, check for correct operation of the vacuum advance (if you have one) on the distributor.

Plug wire condition?
Cap and rotor condition?
Checked for vaccum leaks?
I just fixed an intermittent misfire from a bad plug wire. Took me awhile to find it. Wiggling the plug wires and getting a shock from one was how.
It sounds like a timing issue by your description.
