On Our Way

Originally I was going to take the LX450 but after the flop, plans changed. I am glad I bought my daughter an 80. Back-up is a good thing to have especially when it saves the family Sierras trip.

Glad the trip was 'epic'. See you were camped down at the river campsites. My favorite place in the meadows. You obviously had no problems with the stock 80 pulling the teardrop. Will be up there mid-September.

How much dead wood/fallen trees were around? It was bad last year and I planned on bringing my chain saw this year for a little extra firewood instead of hauling it all up there.

It was pretty cleaned out around the campsites, but there were some bigger trees laying around. Anything small has been broken off by campers. A chainsaw would get you plenty but bring an axe to split it. A short walk up river from my campsite, (the best one at the end) there was plenty of fallen trees and arm size branches laying around. Came fire restrictions were in effect but that didn't seem to stop anyone. Every campsite I could see had a small fire going at night.

That river campsite at the very end with the bench made of a large log is absoultely the best one up there and that's where we always try to go.

Did you see the one large tree that was axe chopped right next to the road about 50 feet from the site? That's where we used an axe to cut it and remove it from the road last year! Ken (Kemesa here) radioed me via ham when he got to the site as I was far behind him with my trailer. He said he had good news and bad news. Good news - the site is not occupied. Bad news - there's a big tree that's fallen accross the road blocking access to the site and it's about a foot in diameter! Took us a good half hour, axe on one side of the road and a small hand held saw on the other side of the road to clear it before we could get into camp!

I always carry an axe and because of last year's experience plan on bringing my chainsaw this year.

Thanks for the update!!

Thanks for sharing the photos.

It's possibly going to be our destination next week, depending on what happens with our trailer.
